I think I'll try to see whether I can move on to Portuguese this time.

It worked! I posted a bit on the French, Latin, and (especially) Arabic forums before moving on to Portuguese.

I think I'm almost done with Spanish, but I also have this Tajik song I recently posted stuck in my head now. I feel like I don't really understand all the words, but I definitely get the idea of the song:

Basically, the guy in this song is telling the woman she's beautiful and asking her what kind of man she'd marry. He asks her whether she'd marry a teacher (malim), a doctor (dokhtor), a butcher (qasob), a buzkashi player (chawondoz), or a driver (shafyor, from Russian шофёр, from French chauffeur). She refuses to marry any of them. He asks why, so she states her reasons. However, in the end, when she sees him drive a fancier car, she agrees to marry him (and then they get into a car accident).

I actually thought it might be a parody of an old (I believe pre-Revolution) Iranian song that, at least as far as I'm aware, is not about getting married at all but rather about dancing (or about wanting to dance). I think the rhythm is very similar to the Tajik song I posted here:

I actually thought it might be a parody of an old (I believe pre-Revolution) Iranian song that, at least as far as I'm aware, is not about getting married at all but rather about dancing (or about wanting to dance). I think the rhythm is very similar to the Tajik song I posted here:

Maybe the tune is the same or similar, but otherwise not a parody; they have nothing else in common.

Nice! I think the second YouTube video I ever watched was probably some video my dad's old Polish co-workers took while goofing off in his hometown. I don't think their YouTube channel was ever even archived.

BCS is one of my favourite languages in terms of phonology. I grew up spending a lot of time in Russian-speaking environments, so that's what seems like "default" Slavic in my brain; and to my ear, BCS sounds very sing-songy and..."light". I'd love to learn it properly.

Russian is the first Slavic language I was ever exposed to myself. I had barely even touched BCS until one of my cousins got married in Croatia and his in-laws and their neighbors were all monolingual in Croatian. No one else from our side of the family spoke a word of Croatian.
