Alright, I did it! Sort of. To type ル I just need to type ru, get the hirigana character る to flip to katakana ルカ, then delete the カ . Simple.... right....

Also, it’s been probably 6 years since I tried to study Japanese, but I am surprised how much of the alphabets are comin back to me.

Hmm, I just use Google Input Tools tbh. But then I don't use my phone often, so maybe that makes a big difference.

On Google inputs on PC you can set it to katakana and just type "ru". On mobile devices you can have it set on kana, so you just type the kana you want, though you'd need to select the katakana, as it defaults to hiragana.

Oh, I forgot about setting it to katakana.

I did not do well on numbers, which are a challenge along with the names of letters in every language I learn. Like, I can remember ausgezeitchnet for super intensely happy in German, but saying the name of Y takes me a minute. Sine, tu, re, ihne... crap it’s ine... sikne? ... something... (ine, asikne, iwan)... need more time for these. Will go into the weekend hoping to get more vocab and possibly if, then.. while coming up with more sentences to get SOV and finally reading more resources on adverb / adjective placement. Wasn’t great with adding ku= to the verb as I should have so will do a longer “I did x, you did y” to get practice.

I'm kind of tempted to maybe start an Ainu study group with you, if you're interested.

I actually wouldn't mind studying Ainu myself. But I intend to attack it from the Japanese angle. So I won't be joining anytime soon.

I have a thing for the minority languages in the countries who's languages I'm really interested in.

I take it you like Ryukyuan languages, too, then? Miyako's pretty cool.

Yes. I plan to hopefully study one or two one day. I was thinking of Okinawan for sure. But I'll see what resources there are once I can start to access Japanese stuffs.

Ghost edit- no is the participle for “let us..” so Soy unukar=an no means “again meet us let’s”. Apparently the resource I got Soy unukaran no from is one that doesn’t use = to show addition to verbs like Noir did in the guide here. So, I need to remember that. Also, time goes first, then subject, unless it is a pronoun which gets attached to verbs instead, and then participles (like rusuy, ne, etc )

edit 2- also, ku=, e= ( I, you)goes in front where =an (we) goes at the end. There is no equivalent for 3rd person singular (that I know of and the unilang guide seems to indicate so)

Edit 3- character of the day- no ノ

Bs sentence but I did a stretch for the character Me メso I could combine it to make メコ Cat. Easier since t looks like no with a stroke.This means I can officially say:

クコル メコ。
Ku=kor meko

My cat.

which... i found out woman is menoko, so...

クコル メノコ
Ku=kor menoko

My woman

(till I lean more katakana and the word for wife )

I'll have to find some way to learn Ainu then, I guess.

Also, there is an anime called “Golden Kamuy” which sprinkles Ainu into it for flavor. Never heard of it till last week so will need to see if it’s any good for language. Learned a lot of French slang from reading “Love Hina” years ago .

A more realistic option is to try and find the yukar (sagas) in Ainu.

ス for Su - like メ (slash from ノ) and クmixed together. Kind of. That might be a stretch even for my memory triggers. Might think of Su ス more as in, someone with long hair running away, as in, telling goodbye in Suy unukaran no. So I have the first and last characters of that!

It is a fun word to say .

Note: apparently, different authors will use different finals in katakana. So, kor may be written in katakana as コル or コレ, コラ, コロ etc. This might partially be due to Yukie Chiri and Imekanu writing down the original Yukar sagas in Romanji, instead of katakana. At the time most Ainu were illiterate. I am unsure why they chose romanji, but as there are no final consonants for the most part in Japanese, likely why.
