Your German section is missing the BTG. ;)

In all seriousness, though, I know people have been taking a long time with it already and that the German text you got is probably a pretty convoluted translation, but it has been eight days already, and we're supposed to do it in five.

I'm working on it. I plan to get my translation done later today. So no need to worry.

My father offered to help me out. :P I can phone a friend, right?

Yay! Viel Glück!

You're supposed to do it by yourself, but dEhiN did also say he might get his uncle to help with his Tamil translation (I'm not sure he actually ended up doing it, though). IIUC I believe you're allowed to ask questions but still write everything yourself.

My father is probably only marginally better at German than I am, so there's not much concern.

It's interesting how both users of partial Polish ancestry I know of from both sides of the US-Canada border have fathers who speak one of their heritage languages only marginally better than their sons.

My father took German in college (and possibly Highschool as well), but hasn't kept up much with it in the years since.

Wait BTG’s are still a thing in the current year? Damn I have been gone for too long.

Yes, but based on how this year's went, I'm not sure about its future.

Since I didn't get the opportunity yesterday after work to do much language study, I'm shifting these two goals until Wednesday.

I think, given my issues with wordload from German, that I'll supplement my German studies with some memrise courses.

Same with mine, except definitely not in high school and he hasn't kept up with it at all ever since I started studying it when I was like eight or whatever. He said I'd learned more in about two weeks than he could remember after studying it with great dedication for at least three years.

I remember looking over my father's old college textbooks when I was a kid. :P

(The German ones, I mean.)

Me, too (I kind of tried to go through it, actually). The map of the German-speaking world in it is so old it includes Königsberg (Kaliningrad) as a "recently lost territory."

Hell, I remember trying to teach one of my friends German through one textbook, and you know, learning it myself too. :P

It wasn't until college that I actually took it halfway serious though. Grades and all.

It can't have been a very authentic textbook. A real German map would never have recognised that as lost territory, but said something like "zur Zeit unter polnischer/sowjetischer Verwaltung" while showing the German borders of 1937 (which I think was the correct description de jure, even though reality looked different). Not sure when they stopped doing that, but I would guess that maybe it was only with the 2+4 treaty in 1990.

This is one of my father's old textbooks:
https://www.amazon.com/German-Conversat ... -Glaettli/

That's not the one that I was trying to use though. I'll have to dig that one up. My father pulled out the above textbook, and I guess he plans on using it to review.
