That link doesn't work for me...

It can't have been a very authentic textbook. A real German map would never have recognised that as lost territory, but said something like "zur Zeit unter polnischer/sowjetischer Verwaltung" while showing the German borders of 1937 (which I think was the correct description de jure, even though reality looked different). Not sure when they stopped doing that, but I would guess that maybe it was only with the 2+4 treaty in 1990.

The textbook wasn't actually from Germany; it was from the US (New York, I think). :) It's relatively rare that foreign language classes here use textbooks from the country where the language is spoken, I think, although the first two textbooks we used in my Chinese classes were part of a government-approved series from the PRC.

I wasn't really thinking of a textbook from Germany, just expecting that it would show a map as used in Germany. But reading your message again, it actually sounds more likely that this was in some kind of a general introduction or an appendix rather than the actual lessons? Then it makes sense that the map would be in English and labelled according to the US standards.

No, it was in German, but in the two pages just after/before each cover. It was in the postwar period, though, so maybe they deliberately deviated from German practice because they still thought of Germany as an enemy or something? I dunno. :-/

*tries to find dad's textbook by entering "Lernen Sie Deutsch" without quotes*
Amazon: Did you mean: linen size deutsch
*tries putting quotes around it*
Amazon: Did you mean: "lernen size deutsch"

This was my dad's textbook.

Kind of, except that the rehabilitation took place earlier than that because I used other PRC government-approved resources (videos with a transcript) before taking classes, too. ;) My resources for Chinese are pretty PRC-specific anyway, though.
