I gave the memrise course because it has audio.

EDIT: I forgot about Wolof! Which would be more fun, Wolof or Zulu, Vijay?
Also, do you happen to have the audio to either TY ("Complete") Zulu or Xhosa?

EDIT2:

EDIT3: So.....I talked myself into Zulu and/or Xhosa. :P

なるほど。

They're both fun! But Wolof would be more fun in the sense that it's obviously more different from Swahili (which I already kinda know) than Zulu is (Zulu being Bantu and all).

Nope, sorry! The only books I have audio for are Buntús Cainte, TY Turkish (the old 90s version on audiotapes), TY Romanian (like TY Turkish), and TY Latvian (the slightly newer 21st-century version on a CD).

Shouldn't you talk yourself into your other languages first?

Be that as it may, I don't know any Bantu languages. So Zulu.

Then what good are your books? :hmm:

Zulu is fine with me! :) Makes it easier for me :D

They've gotten me this far...?

I know people say books are no good without the audio, but audio materials are often expensive and typically not as widely available IME. In most cases, I just try to make a reasonable guess as to how things are pronounced based on what the book already says. Honestly, it works pretty well. These days, it also helps that e.g. YouTube is a thing, so finding something to listen to in the language in question is kind of a no-brainer. Needless to say, that's pretty helpful. :)

Okay, then I'll just keep bugging you with them. :naughty:

Actually, you have a point there. Wolof it is!

Just try it and see what happens!

You know this strategy never works because I just agree with whatever you suggest, right?

Good, cause I wasn't really switching to Wolof anyway. Shaka Zulu!

Unjani?

I've been trying to review my Chinese vocabulary (much of which, of course, I've forgotten) and noticing that I probably need to review/learn character etymologies again.

I was taking a stab at formulating how to say "not good."

And, since you went and said I should focus on my other languages first, I'm thinking I'll put Zulu and Arrernte on hold. :hmpf:

No, you said it right (AFAIK anyway). I was saying that the statement was inaccurate, not the way you phrased it. ;)

:whoo:

Meanwhile, I'm feeling kind of daunted by how much I have to review in all my languages tbh. :para: I think I'll have to take them on one at a time. I don't think there's any way I can afford to review them simultaneously given my now relatively tight schedule.

The solution is simple, drop all your languages except the ones you said you'd help me with.

Which should I buy, Vijay: Tlingit or Crow?

(And, yes, I know Tlingit can be downloaded. I like books.)

The fact that I was having trouble remembering Chinese character etymologies isn't really that important. I can just read about them a little; in this case, I did a bit of that and then I think felt better about it and not as forgetful anymore. :P

Or do what I actually have been doing and just continuing to review them until it no longer is such a big obstacle. :partyhat:

Tlingit! Then we can both do it together! :D

I do love Tlingit.....
But I would also love to say "I speak Crow" and have people look at me weird. :P

Ahem!

Besides, you could just do that anyway. If they tell you to say something in Crow, just fake it. It's not like they'll be able to tell wtf you're really speaking. ;)

Hey, I can learn any damn language I want! For any reason I please! :hmpf:

EDIT: But seriously, it'd be nice to branch into another Siouan language, beyond Sioux proper. And Crow has the coolest name, so....
