I just buy stuff at Half Price Books because I can do that here and it's way cheaper than Amazon if they happen to have the (kind of) books I'm looking for. :P

I've been known to buy used books off Thrift Books for dirt cheap.

There's a place near me that sells used books by the pound. What I hate about them is that they don't seem to care about condition; I've seen stuff on their shelves that other booksellers would be ashamed to leave in a free pile. It's very disappointing to get excited about a title only to open it up and find some moron has scrawled all over it. (This is a college town, so a lot of the books have been used by students in their courses. This is particularly true in the foreign-language section.)

But if you are fortunate enough to find what you want in good condition, you'll get it at a good price.

I don't think I even care that much whether it's in good condition or not. Someone scribbled all over that book on child language acquisition I have, and what's even more annoying is that they did that in English, but I think I've gotten to the point where I've kind of learned to ignore it.

EDIT: Also, księżycowy, congrats on becoming a mod! :)

Nope. His name was in gray for quite a while (I think at least a year), then two days ago (I think), I logged on and suddenly saw his name in purple boldface.

Yeah, grey is for regular users, purple for language forum mods, blue for global mods, green for forum admins, and red for site admins. Really, there are only two red users - proycon, who created the site and owns the server that the site is hosted on, and Ysrenhart, who is a server admin along with proycon, if I remember correctly.

There's also unilang. I'm not sure if that's someone else or just another account for proycon though.

No, that's a special account that basically is not a real user. I forget the technical details (Osias might understand more depending on how familiar he is with phpBB), but the user unilang was created with uid 1 to, if I understand correctly, populate the db and I guess get things started? It's been a while since I was into coding, so I'm not sure how best to explain it, but basically it's a technical thing.

You're right dEhiN . At some point, it was also used to make general announcements regarding the site/forum.

Oh so there is login info for unilang? I thought it was an internal php(BB) thing that was auto-generated which meant it couldn't be used as a login.

Next week's goals!
I'm going to be trying to set some time aside for my languages daily again (probably about an hour all together, maybe a smidge more). I have to get back into the swing of things. I especially need to review things from the lessons I've gone over. I hate having to keep reviewing old stuff. I can't let my thesis (as important as it is) be an excuse for the next month (or more)!

I might be over zealous on my goals, but better to shot high and actually get something done in them all, then show low and put it off until the end of the week.

Goals For 12/18 Through 12/23
    Japanese
  • Review Lessons 1-6 in 「みんなの日本語初級1」 by 3-A
  • Find something easy (and hopefully fun) to translate as I await my reader to come

    Hebrew
  • Parse Ex 3:7-9
  • Review Lessons 5-10 in Biblical Hebrew by Kittel, et al.
  • Complete Lessons 1-2 in The Routledge Introductory Course in Modern Hebrew by Etzion

    Irish
  • Finish parsing An Chearc
  • Review Lessons 4-6 in Teach Yourself Irish by Dillon & Ó Cróinín

    Seneca
  • Conversational Seneca Course
  • Complete Lessons 1-4 in Seneca Language Supplement

    Anki
  • Hebrew - Lessons 5-10 (Kittel), Lessons 1-2 (Etzion)
  • Japanese - Lessons 4-6 (and maybe some extra sentences from lessons 1-3)
  • Irish - Lessons 7-9
  • Seneca - Lessons 1-4 (Supplement)

Yeah, sorry. I feel like the most important thing I need help with in regards to Hebrew at the moment is reading texts without niqqud. Sure, there are a few ways to tackle that, but the easiest (and the one with some helps) is just to use my other Modern Hebrew textbook. :P

Sorry, Luís. But hey, at least I'm still trying to learn Modern Hebrew, so we still have that going for us.

Eh, I don't feel at this point that it is very important to parse Irish. As long as I understand the sentence, grammar be damned (to a certain point, obviously :P ). I also just want to move on to a new story. Who knows, maybe I'll still parse that on. We'll see.

So my "new" goals:

Goals For 12/18 Through 12/23
    Japanese
  • Review Lessons 1-6 in 「みんなの日本語初級1」 by 3-A
  • Find something easy (and hopefully fun) to translate as I await my reader to come

  • Parse Ex 3:7-9
  • Review Lessons 5-10 in Biblical Hebrew by Kittel, et al.
  • Complete Lessons 1-2 in The Routledge Introductory Course in Modern Hebrew by Etzion

    Irish
  • Translate (and parse?) An Chearc Uisce by Dónal Ó Liatháin
  • Review Lessons 1-6 in Teach Yourself Irish by Dillon & Ó Cróinín

    Seneca
  • Conversational Seneca Course
  • Complete Lessons 1-4 in Seneca Language Supplement

    Anki
  • Hebrew - Lessons 5-10 (Kittel), Lessons 1-2 (Etzion)
  • Japanese - Lessons 4-6 (and maybe some extra sentences from lessons 1-3)
  • Irish - Lessons 7-9
  • Seneca - Lessons 1-4 (Supplement)

This has kind of been my attitude towards Syrian Arabic and Amharic lately.

I frequently face this with French, lately. Sometimes I try to parse a sentence or phrase I see, but then other times I just scan it and if I understand the gist, I'm good.
