So, here we go again! Same ol' languages as last year:
So I think I'll start off with Malayalam, then French, then German, then Mandarin Chinese...then actually maybe Spanish, and then Portuguese. Usually, I do it the other way around: Portuguese and then Spanish. But Spanish is a language where I've been kind of slacking off - like, out of those six languages, that's the one where I'm most likely to ignore previous mistakes I've made. But I'm definitely thinking of at least starting with Malayalam. Who knows if then I'll feel like doing Hindi or something next instead (i.e. instead of French), but at least Malayalam, Mandarin Chinese, French, Spanish, and German are the languages I've given myself three stars in and are thus the ones that I'm most likely to use for a job. Which brings me to the next topic!
This year, Iiiii think I really better try to get an actual job. Like, one that pays medical insurance, because the online translation job I have now, though enjoyable (and surely low-stress) enough for me personally, does not come even close to doing this. I also want to try to actually get out of the house a bit without relying on my parents to take me out! So I'd like to go for at least one meetup and if Allekanger is still up for a trip to Austin this summer or something then yaaaaaaay and I hope it works out!! I also really need to think about taking a trip to Washington, D.C. because my cousin has invited me over and I don't even know when to go, precisely because of a) when I'll get a job and when that job will leave me available and b) Allekanger potentially visiting! Wow, that's a lot of shit to do! I mean, "get a job, go meet someone, and make plans to go see your cousins" doesn't sound like that big of a deal on the surface, but in fact, every one of those things really is for me when you think about it.
Plus, there are some additional complications with (I just gulped ) me, UniLang, and TLCs/PLBs/whatever. For instance, one problem I've always had is...like, how to evaluate my progress in any of these languages, and an even bigger problem for me personally is when do I get to move from one language to the next? I kind of talked about (possible solutions to) this last year, but how will it actually work out? And on top of it all, UniLang has actually been kind of bustling lately, to the point where I've easily been able to make an average of at least ten posts posts a day even without venturing into any of the language-specific forums! But if I'm doing languages AND looking for/working at a job AND making plans about a trip AND trying to make a commitment to meet up with people, will I really be able to make so many posts a day?! I doubt it. Might have to cut baaaaaaack! But we'll see.
Let's see how this goes!
