Thanks. I'm planning to achieve at least a2 in each, although it will be a very difficult task.

Are you studying by yourself or do you plan to take classes for some of the languages? Are you starting Japanese and Chinese from the start? I m curious, how do you plan to do it ? I woul like to learn Japanese or Chinese, but the alphabets scare me a little :hmm:

I recently found these gaming-style apps (for Android, though they may also be for iPhone) that teach Japanese and Chinese basics (as well as Korean and Hebrew). For Japanese, it teaches the kana and basic kanji. For Chinese, it teaches basic logograms plus tones. They cost about $2 US each. You can read more about them, plus see a Youtube video about them here.

Well. I was saving it for my first post, but whatever. ;) My knowledge of Mandarin Chinese and Japanese is very basic. I know some kana and a few kanji/hanzi characters, but that's about it. My plan is to learn hiragana and katakana and some kanji as well as hanzi, but my main focus is on the spoken language. Anyway, it's hard to read these languages, but it's even harder to write them, so I won't go there for now. When it comes to speaking these languages, I know some words and sample sentences, but not enough to call myself a false beginner. I think it's easier to learn to read what you can already pronounce than the other way around. To answer your question. I'll be using books mainly. Of course accompanied by audio. I think I'll start with Italian and see how it goes. Best of luck in your study!!!

Mi chiamo Simone. Ho venticinque anni e il mio lavoro non e interessante. Fa freddo oggi ed anche fa freddo nella mia stanza. Vengo dalla republica cecca e il mio sport favorito e gli scacchi.

Please. Would you correct my mistakes?

Benissimo. Grazie.

Just for the record. I like chess, but it's not like I play it well. Unlike my brother, who has an international rating of around 2000 if I remember correctly.

Preferito. Somehow Spanish got in the way. Haha.

Hehe, I find this when I interact with Italian. All I do right now is try to read what others write, on here. But I'll be going along and understand words because they're Spanish cognates. Suddenly I'll see a different word than the Spanish one, and it takes me a second to realize it's a French cognate!

Yeah. Spanish and French have helped me a lot in my study so far. Insegnante, letto, malato, in ritardo.

Yeah, not much common when it means favourite. Nowadays it's more used with the meaning of "favoured".

Japanese tip: there is an awesome app called Human Japanese. It has a good free version to. I have it on my phone

Edit- I should say I only ever have purchased 3 apps before, and thought that one was good enough to get.
