tl;dr Mostly just random thoughts about what to learn next

Oh, how could I forget to mention that LangMedia is useful for Urdu?! And to some extent also Hindi.

I need to review my Krio...but tomorrow (Thursday), I'm going to have to go take a test, which I have to pass (and probably will pass!) in order to get my last job back. Dammit, can't I just get people to pay me as a language consultant or something? Why life hard why get job hard why life why :silly:

Anyway! I've been thinking about making Nicaraguan Sign Language/ISN my next language to add to my list! Finding resources sure is a pain, but hey, that doesn't stop me from learning some of my other languages, right?! 8-) So that way, I'll have two sign languages (both indigenous to the Americas!), two Semitic languages, two English-based creoles, two Austronesian languages, two "Papuan" languages, two Central American indigenous languages (from different families), two mixed languages (Michif and Light Warlpiri), one Dravidian language, one Sino-Tibetan language, one Turkic language, one Nilo-Saharan/Nilotic/whatever language, one Bantu language, one Tai-Kadai language, one Algonquian language, and eight (or nine, if you count English) Indo-European languages (four Italic of which three are Romance, one Germanic (excluding English), two Slavic, and one Indo-Aryan)!

Ooh, I wonder whether I could add another Nilo-Saharan language, too! Maybe Acholi?

Actually, maybe Khoekhoe would be more challenging than any of these. It could be really interesting, too, learning to produce all those clicks...

Omg, I'm so conflicted now. Maybe I should just do another NAIL! Like Cayuga! :o Or Navajo, or Tlingit. And I wonder whether I still have access to my materials for Tlingit. Or I could do Nicaraguan Sign Language and another NAIL. Oh, and Beginning Tlingit is right here! And there's stuff like this, too. Or oh, I could do Chinook Jargon and then Tlingit, or something like that.

Actually, you know what? Starting Ternate would probably be the hardest thing I could do next, probably even harder than starting another sign language. Or I could do both and delay Chinook Jargon! :partyhat:

You should just give in and do Seneca with me (and dEhiN?). :naughty:

Wait, Cayuga? Now I'm conflicted.
Then again, what do you have to learn Cayuga?

I don't have anything for either of them. I could do Seneca instead of Cayuga; I don't really care either way. :P

I'm actually now leaning towards an Australian language. I was thinking maybe Kala Lagaw Ya because it sounds so different from other Australian languages and more like Meriam Mir despite apparently being Pama-Nyungan...but now, I'm kind of leaning towards Iwaidja. I mean, a non-Pama-Nyungan language spoken on an island off the coast of Australia that's still being passed on to children with /l ɭ r ɽ ɻ ɺ/ and /ɺ˞/ (the retroflex version of /ɺ/! :D) with consonant mutation vaguely reminiscent of Celtic and kinship terms that are verbs? How awesome is that?!

Incidentally, I'm starting to think my first extinct language apart from Latin may end up being an Australian one. :o

I'm already doing two languages that are spoken near the East Coast, though, plus Light Warlpiri, which its speakers consider just another form of Warlpiri, which is Pama-Nyungan! :)

Oh, I never said I'd never do it! It's just a matter of which language to do next.

Okay!

After Iwaidja, Nicaraguan SIgn Language, Ternate, Chinook Jargon, Tlingit(?)...maybe that's it, though. Maybe also Kala Lagaw Ya.

No more manga for you, naughty senpai! :nono:

At least you were smart enough to read the fine print, though.
vijayjohn wrote:I often prefer saddening two fellow UniLangers to saddening resources.

Haters gonna hate! Never mind that I haven't actually found resources for almost any of those languages, or for Seneca or Arrernte for that matter, although I'm sure you already have resources for the latter two that you'd totally share with me for free! Right?

In unrelated news, it looks like I don't have to go tomorrow, but the contracting company is pretty disorganized about things, so who knows!

Arrernte I'd be willing to share. In a way.

I just saw that the Wikipedia article on Iwaidja references a paper(?) named "Iwaidjan, a very un-Australian language family." This is getting better and better by the minute!
