Why?

Because all of those things will be going on at the same time, the study groups tend to have weekly or biweekly tasks, and the three people who are in the highest number of study groups are also in both games. :P

Well...no one told them they have to participate in so many things! What's that expression: if you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen!

(This was inspired by a thread I'd created in the General Language Forum before). At some point, everyone explains in English what they really meant (and perhaps what they thought they were replying to!).

Multilingual Café?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking! It's been done and even spawned several offshoots. But like everything else with UniLang, all those Cafés eventually became abandoned. (I'm partially surprised the Study Groups have lasted this long! :D)

I forgot to ask about the criteria for the text to translate.
1. How long should it be?
2. Is it ok if it is not originally in English?
3. Is it ok if the text may be familiar to some of the participants?
4. Can it be a part of a larger story?

I would say...

1. Roughly the size of the last BTG
2. I don't think that's a problem
3. If possible, I'd rather avoid this because it could influence the translation
4. Sure, as long as it can be understood without additional context

Good answers kevin! I'm not sure if Salajane has already picked a text, but I would say that for question #1, I chose a text for the FUBAR game that's about 100 words, which is the size of a small paragraph. Personally, I would also say for question #2 that using a common or official translation of some sort is better than taking a text that's not in English, translating it yourself and then using it for the BTG.

I have not yet received the text, so I am assuming the game has not begun and that Salijane may still be putting it together.

With this assumption, here are my two cents, Salijane on your questions.
1. About 100 words or a paragraph.
2. I would prefer it to be originally in English.
3. I feel like if it is familiar to some participants than it is as though they have the original copy which skips the translations in between. It's fun to see how close the final product is to the original through all the translations.
4. I don't mind it being an excerp of a larger piece as long as it makes sense.

Salijane:

I will be looking for the text in my private messages. Otherwise let me know, somehow, if I have misunderstood. :)

What's happening with this game? Do we have a new estimated start date?

Hmm, what do we do now for this game? Do we just wait for Salajane to start it off?

No worries, I'll take over this game.

Here's the chain I propose:

[source] English > Ser French > Luis Spanish > linguoboy Irish > kevin German > ksiezycowy English > Car Spanish > OldBoring Chinese > Vijay Tamil > dEhiN French > Acceptance4All:) English

I wrote a computer program to generate chains for me, and this was up there among the ones with a high level of interest. :D

The problem with that is that then we have to get everyone to agree to a new chain all over again, so the easiest solution in reality would probably be just getting OldBoring to send his Mandarin text to me instead of you so I can translate it into Tamil and keeping the rest of the chain the same as before (with you starting us off instead of Salajane).

Ehh, okay then. I'll send the text to Acceptance4All:) now, in no time.

So what's the chain then?

Edit: If I understand correctly, then this should be the new chain?

English (Ser) - French (Acceptance4All:)) - Portuguese (Luís) - Mandarin (OldBoring) - Tamil (vijayjohn) - Spanish (dEhiN) - Italian (Car) - Irish (linguoboy) - German (kevin) - English (księżycowy)

In that case, Ser, would you be up for keeping us updated on the progress? All you'd need to do is bold wherever the chain is.
