tongue twister game

Postby Æxylis » 2009-06-22, 0:49

I thought of an idea for a game that's perfect for language in general
a tongue twister game
the point is to either say a tongue twister in some language that you know, or one that you've made up
in case you're not familiar with what makes a tongue twister, this is usually some sort of short speech where almost all of the words are very similar...

here's my example to start, it's one of my favorite tongue twisters

A flea and a fly in a flue;
"let's flee!" said the fly,
"let's fly!" said the flea,
so they flew through a flaw in the flue...

Those are quite interesting (and scary! Image) tongue twisters, Null. :)

This is one is very difficult for Spanish speakers (also, the first version is more popular):

Tres tristes tigres tragaban trigo en un trigal en tres tristes trastos.
En tres tristes trastos tragaban trigo tres tristes tigres.

Tres tristes tigres tragaban trigo en un trigal.
Tras tus tres tristes tigres, qué triste estás Trinidad.

Recording here. Because it took me three tries to get it right.

These ones are very famous too:
Pablito clavó un clavito
en la calva de un calvito.
En la calva de un calvito
un clavito clavó Pablito.

El rey de Constantinopla quiere desconstantinopolizarse.
El desconstantinopolizador que lo desconstantinopolice, buen desconstantinopolizador será.

http://mp3upload.ca/files/18304/pablito__constantino

This one sounds interesting with lots of /j/ and /ʝ/:
Hoy ya es ayer
y ayer ya es hoy,
ya llegó el día,
y hoy es hoy.

http://mp3upload.ca/files/18302/hoy__ayer_spanish_tongue_twister
In the first one I pronounced them naturally with both /j/ and soft /ʝ/ as [j]. In the second one I tried to pronounce [ʝ]...

EDIT: Recordings added! :D

Another version of this:

I don't know about how stress works in Croatian, so I'll put it in second to last syllables.

If two Swiss witches watched two Swatch watches, witch Swiss witch would watch which Swatch watch?

And I really hate this one because it's so senseless and hard:

P.s.: I like all of your tongue-twisters :) I would never try the Chinese one!

I don't know the numbers Chinese tones have, but I see ǒ, à, ā and á, and no word without an accent.

The ǒ looks very similar to ō though.
Swedish (sv) native; English (en) good; Norwegian (no) read fluently, understand well, speak badly; Danish (dk) read fluently, understand badly, can't speak; Faroese (fo) read some, understand a bit, speak a few sentences; German (de) French (fr) Spanish (es) forgetting; heritage language.

No, there's nothing wrong, there's only a single third tone, a wǒ near the end. :)
