That Thai proverb is pretty odd; the first part uses the formal word for 'excrement', but the second part uses the vulgar word for 'shit'. Changing the translation for that one a bit, editing IPA transcription, and adding Hindi and Urdu

Your IPA tone letters came out wrong on my computer. I used the diacritics because the tone letters often don't display well. We can leave them or change them back - in any case I guess it's good to have both in this thread so that if one doesn't display well for other readers, the other version hopefully will. I think it depends on what browser is used etc.
ขี้ is more vulgar than ทุ่ง but not as vulgar as the English word. As a noun it's actually perfectly polite (for example, the only way I know to say "ash" uses it: ขี้เถ้า). It's only somewhat crude as a verb but still doesn't seem as strong as the English vulgarity. BTW I realized after looking it up on this site just now, that ไม่มีมูล หมาไม่ขี้ should have a space between the two clauses. Correcting that. (That site also has a version I've never heard, in English: "Where there's a chicken, there are mites." But I have no idea where that English one comes from. Google search basically only finds it on that site and some others that seem to quote it.)

Okay, how about we use the Paiboon transliteration system instead? I've tried to include that below and changed the translation back, but with the "where there is no excrement" part still at the front. :)

Sure....? I'm fine with whatever transliteration is used. I'm still not sure why you didn't like my original transliteration though. Did IPA change the rules about tone diacritics and no one told me? :D AFAIK both forms are accepted in IPA... last I checked. I really don't care which we use but since I'm the one who posted both the original thread and the Thai translation, I'm not sure why it has been changed. You seem to have a stronger preference for certain transliteration systems than I do. It makes me curious as to why you prefer tone letters or Paiboon over IPA diacritics.

Okay, I find those diacritics awfully vague and language-specific for IPA, but you're right. I'll change it back. :P
