If the English sentence with third conditional is the original one, it should be something like Si hubieras callado, filósofo habrías permanecido. At least callabas, as far as I know, can't be part of a conditional clause like past tense in English. I just don't touch it because my Spanish is really rusty and I'm afraid of adding another mistake or awkward expression. Any hispanohablantes wanting to comment on this?
