WINNIE-THE-POOH

Postby undrentide » 2006-05-16, 23:54

Since I was small, I've been a great fan of "Winnie-the-Pooh" and "The Pooh House at Pooh Corner" by A. A. Milne. What each character is called in other languages?

This is the translation that is extremely popular in Poland, even though it is not at all faithful to the original. There is a newer, according to most opinions better one, but it's hardly known to anyone except scholrs.

Wie wird das chemische Element Brom gewonnen?
Man nimmt eine Hand voll Brombeeren und lässt sie zur Erde fallen. Die Beeren verbinden sich mit Erde zu Erdbeeren und Brom wird frei.

German: "Pu der Bär"

so that's where it comes from! :o

I've always wondered why it was titled "Pu the bear" in Hebrew, since I thought his name was winnie, but now I see it comes from German.

so... Does anyone know why "Pu the Bear"?

It is really interesting how each name is "translated" in other languages! :)

I've heard that there's a street after Pooh Bear in Warsaw. Isn't it nice?

I think it is because it's a story about a bear called "Pooh" (or Winnie-the-Pooh).
Japanese translation (クマのプーさん kuma no puu san) also means Pooh Bear. :)
