(yi) אייערנעכטן the day before yesterday

This is etymologically equivalent to German *ehernächten. Forms of nächten still exist in southern German dialects with the meaning of "last night" or "yesterday", but I haven't found any reliable attestations of the compound form.

(fr)
rallonge nf - extension cord
tétaniser v - (figurative or psychological) to paralyze, to petrify; to scare stiff

Wiktionary says tétaniser is mostly used in the passive voice, and I have only found transitive definitions of it. However, in the context where I found it, a native speaker used it intransitively in the active voice; the meaning remained passive, e.g. tétaniser = "to be paralyzed".

(pt-br) ai - "ah" or "oh" (or something like that)

"Ai" is what you shout out when you hurt yourself, so "ow" or "ouch" would be appropriate translations. I knew this, of course, but I learned a new usage of it from hearing it in songs: "ai de mim" (lit "Ow of me") means something like "Poor me!". I asked my wife about this and she also gave the example of "Ai de você se não tiver lavado a louça até eu voltar do mercado!", which translates as something like "God help you if you haven't washed the dishes by the time I get back from the supermarket!".

(pt-br) papel timbrado (da empresa) - (company) letterhead

"timbrado" means "stamped" from "timbrar" - "to stamp", from "timbre" - "stamp, seal, crest, timbre". I'd have said "brasão" for "crest", but apparently "timbre" can mean this in English too.

(de) rebeln to destem grapes

It seems like this word has been popularly associated with Rebe "grapevine" but it's actually derived from reiben "to rub". In other areas, the word used is abbeeren (literally, "to de-berry").

I probably wasn't paying much attention when I first read this because I was thinking "what? [ˈdɛstɛm]? Wtf is [ˈdɛstɛm]?? I should remember that for the 'last word of your mother tongue that you learnt' thread!" Then I came back to see what word it was that I meant to post and thought, "Oh, duh. De...stem. Are you sure you know this word?"

I don't remember ever seeing this word, tbh, even after living in Taiwan for a year and eating out every single time I wanted something to eat.

I actually had a similar reaction when I was typing it out. I was like, "Wow, 'destem' sure looks odd out of context!" and I imagined pronouncing it /ˈdɛstɪm/ in isolation.

A synonym of rebeln in some places is abbeeren which you could literally translate as "deberry". Of course, if you write it that way, it brings to mind eponyms like homburg or duxelles, as if it were something named for a M. or Mme de Berry.

Me too! I thought it looks like esteem and wondered if they share the same root or something...

(fr) dossier nm - issue, problem

I already knew the "file"-related meanings thanks to English having borrowed the word. Here's the context where I saw it used to mean "issue".
