So, we'll put this idea on hold and check in in a few months. Or, if anyone else is interested, you guys can go for it, and I'll join when I can.

And a Nahuatl group!

And a Navajo group!

And a Mixe-Zoque group!

:silly:

But not a Tlingit or a south-east Asian group because I have obvious limits

Well, you guys can start one up, and as I said, I'll join when I can.

I'd love to learn some Modern Nahuatl, by the way. Anyone have any good resources for that? (Preferably with audio.)

For those really interested in K'iche', I started this thread. I'm still not sure how much time I'll have for real lessons now, but the thread is a start at least. I listed some other resources there too.

I wish I had both the time and a good reason to learn Finnish. I mean, something besides "It sounds really cool and I want language nerd cred for studying a Finnic language." But right now I'm studying Japanese and that's about all the agglutinatiodiscombobulation I can handle right now.

And yes, "agglutinatiodiscombobulation" is a real word. Trust me. :P

People here talking about Navajo and Mi'kmaq, both of which I've studied before, isn't helping either. But my agglutinatiodiscombobulation threshold is very low so I will have wait for another day for returning to those languages.

Putting aside the fact that I live literally surrounded by Mexican Spanish and would just end up getting any closely related language confused with it, I am not very familiar with Iberian Romance languages outside of Spanish, unless you count Occitan. Now, if some Romance language enthusiast here really wanted to make me cry, they would start an Occitan study group.

The Navajo thing is hard to keep in check :para: Yesterday I saw a fantasy book about a Diné monster hunter and I was like "here we go again"

Me: "I don't want to do tonal languages, they're scary"
Also me: "what about Apache though"

I don't think I can pronounce it well though. I wish I had the CDs for Speak, Read, Write Navajo.

This would be nice to know. I remember something with a CD about modern nahuatl from Mexico City (I'm not sure if the "classical Nahuatl" distinction is actually useful). ""Mahtitlahtocan Nahualahtolli (¡Hablemos Náhuatl!)". But I don't know what it's like.

I'm very curious about the Northern Dene ones, but they're, like, thirty different ones...

I know I have many wanderlusts but at least it's always the same rough areas/families/languages, so that's nice.

I'll keep waiting for someone to wanderlust for Malayalam. Or any Dravidian language. Even though it's happened before and apparently does sometimes happen quietly. :pff:
