Dialects are a lot easier than MSA :D It is hard to learn multiple dialects, but knowing one really makes learning other closely related dialects a lot easier.

I always learned Lebanese since that's what my friends spoke and I liked it best, but as I started making Khaleeji and Iraqi friends, I started to learn about the key defining features of those dialects too. All this was happening while I was also listening to a lot of Egyptian music and learning about Egyptian words and grammar too. I bought some books for Egyptian and Iraqi, which were very helpful.

If you really just keep wanting to learn more dialects, you could just listen to this song
the singer claims to be singing in like 15+ dialects, even though in reality it's mostly Lebanese with a few foreign words and sounds thrown in

I'd like to get a passive understanding of Züritüütsch. It shouldn't be that difficult given my basic grasp of Südbadisch.

Funny you're linking that site now. I finished Licia domanda from that site (but on LingQ) the other day.
Please correct my mistakes!

Wtf happened to the Easy Swiss German videos? All I can seem to find is this:

Not that hard for me to understand as long as I'm just reading it, I think. Listening comprehension isn't as easy, though.

That's one of the things keeping me from dabbling into Arabic. I feel helpless when it comes to pronouncing all those emphatic consants and the dreadful ع‎ (I'm so glad Hebrew got rid of it)

I'm not even sure if I can hear the difference between all the sounds Arabic has.

ح is the sound you make when you're panting, and ع‎ sounds like a duck.

I think I'm gradually gaining familiarity with multiple varieties of Arabic.

You can't trust my tiny Basque but I'm totally looking for resources to maybe study it again.

A couple of people on Gaelic twitter were talking about a cheesy BBC travel article about Occitan and the silly stereotypes about Occitan culture that the article included and now I want to break out the hurdy-gurdy, go hunt truffles, wave the Occitan Cross flag and learn some more lenga d'òc.

I keep needing to remind myself that "to read a few books in the original" is not a good reason to learn a language given how many languages I already have on my plate.

I'm wanderlusting for Persian myself and wondering if my grasp of the script is good enough now to attempt an easy Memrise course.

UPDATE: It isn't. I was completely confused. Oh well. Persian will have to wait a bit longer until I have time to deal with that script.

One of the best Welsh dictionaries available online used to be Catalan-Welsh. I wish I knew more about the person who compiled it because it sounds like we're lost soulmates.
