In fact, are you sure it's supposed to be writing? Maybe the vague similarity to Hebrew script is just a coincidence?

I was going to ask the same exact thing. :P

It could just be some sort of artistic representation of.....well, just about anything.

And even if it is writing, it seems awfully short to be much more than maybe a word.

It's Arabic and the word is يافا, I think.

Or maybe it's Uyghur and it's ياقا, which means 'collar'? (It looks to me like there are two dots on top instead of just one, but maybe that's just my eyes failing me? :hmm:).

Two dots and then one dot, Vijay. (Reading it the appropriate way for Arabic script.)

Oh, I know the first letter has two dots under it. I just thought the second one had two over it, too. But I guess that's just me.

I think that's an artifact of the connecting piece of metal making it look like two.

Everyone thank you so much for your help! i'm sorry to have posted this in a Hebrew forum even though it's apparently Arabic, but as I said I had no clue what that writing was.
Again thanks to everyone :)

Hebrew forum? This is a language forum, not specifically a Hebrew forum.

This isn't even the Hebrew specific part of the forum. :hmm:

I don't know the English word for it, in Portuguese is 'respingos' from the manufacturing process.

EDITED: It seems to be 'spatter'.

It was originally posted in the Hebrew forum, but merged with this thread, as this is the right place to ask for help identifying a language.

That's what I saw it as but had no idea what it meant. Well, I still don't, since the only meaning that Wiktionary and Almaany give is that it's the name of a port city in western Israel... so, I assume there's another meaning?

Can anybody tell what language this is?

Postby KomischerKauz » 2018-02-07, 22:10

There is an old ruin near my hometown (Black Forest - Germany). After my last trip to the ruin, i found this texts written on the walls.

Can someone identify this or even translate?
