To me it looks like Bengali, but let's wait for Vijay to see this thread, he'll say with 100% certainty.

My guess: It probably got removed, just like the post in the introductions thread that you replied to and no longer exists, either. That's why I won't identify the language. :P

EDIT: Ah, never mind, it was a spammer, so you're right, I will identify the language as Bengali and translate the first word at least as "life"! :D But then what's the second word...? I guess I'll just look it up and edit this post again. :P

EDIT2: So apparently, the "second word" is actually two words that are often run on together, or something like that. :hmm: In which case it means something like 'a life that is varied'. It's the title of a children's book (from Bangladesh, I think). Also, the post was moved to the spam forum.

How can it be a spammer if both messages were entirely on topic with no links selling/promoting anything?

Looks kind of like upside-down Arabic to me.

Can someone tell me what language this is or what it says?

Postby orion1.7 » 2018-01-24, 15:24

I found this writing at work, it came from the warehouse and we are trying to identify what it says...

I'm wondering whether that could be in English but written in shorthand or something. (Or perhaps a hoax).

That second picture is pretty blurry, I'm afraid, but I see "@ St." at the end of the second line.

Could it be Bengali or Assamese, or some related script, but upside down, in sloppy handwriting? For example, in the first image, the first letter looks (almost) like an upside down দু. In longer blurry image, I see what looks like ক, maybe বা, and so on. But I can't read this script and some parts of it don't look like Bengali letters to me at all. Maybe someone who knows the Bengali script could orient the image so that দু-like letter is written the correct way (correct for দু, anyway) and see if it could be Bengali or something related to it. Maybe a mix of languages, maybe really sloppy?

It vaguely looks a little bit like the text of the Voynich Manuscript (especially the large squiggly character after what looks like a comma and before the squiggly line that looks a little bit like a backwards ๛ in the first pic) so it could be an attempt at imitating that. Or maybe Thai or Lao or something, if the last squiggle of the second line is ๛ (even if it's backwards and the letter isn't really used anymore AFAIK), but probably not... maybe Armenian if the w-like squiggles are ա and the last squiggle of the first line is ֆ?

I would bet it's Brazilian Portuguese written by a doctor, but that would be trolling.

Could anyone help me translate this text?

Postby sabrilein » 2018-02-04, 14:24

Hello everyone!
I recently bought some random jewellery online from this lady who lives in England and I received this pin with a writing I don't understand. I think it's Hebrew but granted my Hebrew knowledge is very limited. I'll attach a photo of the pin to this post. The first letter to the right kinda looks like a Pei to me? And the vowel underneath could be an i?
Thank you all for the help.

It doesn't look like any Hebrew I've ever seen. :?
