Nevertheless I have no idea what is meant by the following sentence. :noclue:
A scurf of books and china ornaments awaited him.
—E. M. Forster, Howards End, Chapter 30

You're probably right, because the second definition of scurf, according to Dictionary.com is a more generic one: any scaly matter or incrustation on a surface.

nuncio
(n)
an official in the Roman Catholic Church who represents the Pope in a foreign country; a papal ambassador

O, then unfold the passion of my love,
Surprise her with discourse of my dear faith:
It shall become thee well to act my woes;
She will attend it better in thy youth
Than in a nuncio’s of more grave aspect.

I had a long conversation about Spanish regionalisms with an Ecuadorian guy who likes languages.

That was way too many words in one go...

This page has a number of Ecuadorian terms, but among those that are not in that page, there's:

positrole 'so good, cool' (apparently a modification of positivo)
ser de lo último / ser de lo last 'to be the worst'
estar hecho verga 'to be shitfaced, very drunk'
triquear 'to smoke pot (marihuana)'
triquero 'pothead'
jeva '40+ year old woman; one's wife'
gabelarse [algo] 'to take [the last piece of something]' (as in, me voy a gabelar el último juguete 'I'm gonna take the very last toy')

yeyo 'heart attack'
guacho 'a watch', but also 'heart' and even 'lottery ticket'!
¡Barájate! 'fuck off!'
meco 'a gay man'
sopa 'a gay man'
badea 'a gay man'
menestra 'a gay man'
chucha 'vagina; bad smell (from one's armpits)' (this word means 'female dog' in the Spanish of El Salvador)
pezuña 'bad smell (from one's feet)' (this word means 'hoof' in standard Spanish)
bolsuña 'bad smell (from one's testicles)' (from bolsa 'bag')

It also turns out that Ecuadorians use guineo for 'banana'! Just like Salvadorans!

Earlier, I said that കൂറ [ˈkuːra] means 'silverfish' because my dad told me so. Today, my dad said it means 'small fry', just like the word ഊപ്പ [ˈuːpa], and when I asked him about whether it could mean 'silverfish', too, he was like "no, it couldn't mean that. Silverfish are bugs!" Then I told him he had told me that, and he said something like "well, maybe it means that, too, idk." :hmm:

:o at so many differentiations of smell. Also, a smell from one's testicles? Is it encountered so often that there is a separate word for that? :P

Salvadoran Spanish:

apiarse del bus - to get off the bus
estar entapiado,a and tener la nariz entapiada - to have a blocked nose

Apiar belongs to the class of vulgar low-register Salvadoran verbs that take -ey- in some of the endings: yo me apeyo, vos te apiás, él se apeya, nosotros nos apiamos, ellos se apeyan (present tense), que yo me apeye, que vos te apiés, que él se apeye, que nosotros nos apiemos, que ellos se apeyen (pres. subj.), él se apió, ellos se apiaron (preterite). Miar 'to piss' is another verb that conjugates this way (yo meyo, vos miás, él meya...).

You're right. I shouldn't call them vulgar, just very non-standard / low-register.

Tomar el joder fuera el bus.

Frida Kahlo tomó el joder fuera el autobús y fue espalda a México. :P

(In Spanish class, the only word we were ever taught for 'bus' was autobús).

Ecuadorian Spanish aguas servidas 'sewage'. In El Salvador the term used is aguas negras. The WordReference Community Dictionary suggests that these two along with aguas residuales are used in Spanish, but in Ecuador and El Salvador the only terms used are the ones I mentioned.

Spanish tarjeta mnemotécnica 'flashcard'.

rescission - act of rescinding

When I saw the word, I realized I didn't have a clear noun form for "rescind". Tentatively, I would have said "rescindment".
