If you know another North-Germanic language you can usually get the general meaning of it :) Also, the English edition of Wiktionary has lots and lots of Faroese words, and you can search for inflected forms.

Halfdan wrote:Yes, it is a bit odd. Personally I like both German and French, but why German should sound so much worse than French. There are a lot of the same sounds, so... it must be the melody/tone.

Mulder-21 wrote:Persónliga dámar mær bæði týskt og franskt, men hví týskt skal ljóða so nógv verri enn franskt?

Sum gevur setninginum meiningina: But why German should sound so much worse than French?

Óansæð, so fingu tit nógv og júst tað burturúr, sum eg ætlaði.

Ja, tú hevur helst rætt, Johanna. Tað man vera hasin eysturríkarin, sum við sínum harða avstrobayriska málføri hevur givið týskt so ringt orð. Men soleiðis tosa fólk úr Týsklandi ikki. Persónliga dámar mær best tað hátýska, sum verður tosað í miðlunum og í t.d. Berlini.
Gløgt er gestsins eyga. (Føroyskt orðafelli)
Wise is the stranger's eye. (Faroese saying)
L'occhio dell'ospite è acuto. (Proverbio faroico)
Hosťovo oko je múdre. (Faerské uslovie)

Fluent: Faroese, Danish, English, German
Almost fluent: Norwegian, Swedish
Basic: Slovak (studying), Spanish
Have studied: Hebrew, Russian
Interests: Ukrainian, Romanian, Italian, Albanian, Armenian, Ossetic, Hungarian, Estonian, Baltic languages
