It's a pretty funny word, and I'll absolutely have to use it somewhere now that I know it just because.
A person from a Western country begging on the streets of a much poorer one, asking for funds to continue their backpacking adventure in the area or around the world.
Can a begpacker be Japanese, Korean, etc. as well or does it only refer to people from western countries?
Asking because if it only refers to western ones, what would people from Asian countries who do that be called without it being racist?
I mean, of course westerners do it a lot more because apparently westerners in general are cheap and disrespectful dicks abroad (and that's actually one of the reasons I'm unsure about ever travelling anywhere myself)
, but there are a handful of results on Google for "Japanese begpackers" and one for "Korean begpackers", so apparently people use it to refer to them too even if it's only "supposed" to refer to westerners. At a glance all the results seem to be about it being a problem in Thailand, though, so maybe it's an extension of the term only used in Thai English?
