in English "The Gods' Domain" doesn't imply mansion or a huge, spacious dwelling

Also not in Portuguese. It's just the name of the building. It's like translating a work with "Empire State" in the title as "The Big Skyscraper" because readers could mistake it by an actual empire.

What about Cree?

I learned the word "Hispania" from that issue of Asterix, too.

Except that the Empire State Building is already an internationally famous building whereas the one in Asterix is not.

That one and Italian are kinda obvious :) But i also didn't list em cause i still kinda try and keep up my knowledge with em even if it's not as actively as i'd prefer.

I should've mentioned Italian, too.

Yay! That's fine; I almost never keep up my knowledge of anything as actively as I'd prefer.

I've developed an earnest interest in taking up Mandarin. I think this will be the first language where I will actually have to start out using Memrise or Duolingo, because the course that I bought at a bookstore in Rome, called Cinese in 21 giorni ("Chinese in 21 Days") did not come with audio.

Does it have to do anything with the amount of Chinese in Italy? :)

I was going to ask how Memrise is going to facilitate the absence of audio, but then I realized that for Chinese they may have ready courses which come with the audio. I myself use Memrise solely as a space repetition system which I prefer over Anki.

That's part of it, but it's mostly because I've always been curious about the language and its logographic orthography.

Why? French is so freaking cool. How could anyone dislike France? :) And what about all the other countries it unlocks?
Lebanon, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Mali, Congo, Senegal and of course Belgium. :P

Well, you have one answer right there: People can (and do) dislike France for its colonialism.

The penetration of French in Sub-Saharan Africa, especially the Congo, doesn't appear very deep. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just something for French learners to note.
