It's soft pop and very melodic, something easy going and the girl got a very nice gentle voice.

Urgh. Well this is absolutely not my kind of music. This sounds very schlager-esque, and these sorts of melodies are likely to be found in German bierzelts. Pardon for being honest but this had to be ;)
And yes, she really has a wonderful voice. What a waste! She could do some less schlager-like music and release an album I'd listen to very often even! But this ... uhh ...

 synni1, you should know that this topic is full quite primitive POP music that many of my age people would rather die than would tell that they listen to it. Some of these songs even my parents don't listen to anymore. I don't even know where people get this music from. But maybe some of it sounds better for foreigners because they don't understand the texts which are so primitive. However, I've also seen in this topic some legendary lithuanian music which most of lithuanians just love and they have wonderful lyrics. :P

And sometimes just stupid, like one Russian song, very popular for a short time, where a guy cries to his girl in the refrain something like "what a pity that our planes will cross each other on their way in the air!"

Maybe you already heard these ones, but Lithuania just celebrated 20 years of independance a few days ago. So I believe its my duty as a Lithuanian to post these songs here.

In memory of "The Baltic Road". Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia together. When we connect, we are unbeatable. Because homeland is much more important than life for us.
Some facts about the "Baltic way": The date of the baltic way was not chosen accidently, it was the same day, some years ago when Hitler and Stalin signed a document named: Molotov and Ribentrop pact" which shows that Hitler and Stalin shared the Europe. And Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia was chosen by Russia, But Hitler took Klaipeda, Lithuanian city, because he loved that city, I dont know why. The baltic way was an action to show the world that the Baltic wants to be independant! During the russian occupation. Singing native songs was illegal, having native flags was illegal. Having native atribution was illegal. If you do that, you would go to jail. But when Lithuania Latvia and Estonia wanted to be independant, they didnt care. As I know, Lithuania came up with the idea of the baltic road. At first they were afraid of making it happen. Not because of the Russian. They were afraid because they thought that people wont come. SO they made a petition. Enough people signed the petition and the baltic way happned. One day before the baltic way: People left flowers in places where the goverment told. For planes to pick up them and drop them off when flying above people in the Baltic way. It was illegal to fly on that day, it was a direct order from Moscow. But noone cared!
The day, when the baltic way happned: Not all people had their own cars in those days. So government took busses from all over lithuania and drove to the baltic way. There were so many people going to the baltic way that the roads were full of cars. The government navigated people and told them where and when to stand trough the radio. But the road was still full. So even the Police helped! It was supposed to arrest people. But they helped, they navigated the cars, so there were no majure car accidents on that day! In those years, Lithuanian population was about 3 million people. And about 1,5 million people stood in the baltic way ONLY IN LITHUANIA! In some places there were even 20 lines of people! The planes flew above, dropped flowers. People held posters saying: RED ARMY GO HOME!, FREEDOM FOR THE THREE COUSINS. NO CCCP! WE WANT TO BE FREE!. And they sang native songs. And this never dieing song of the baltics:

Video about the Baltic way:

Lithuanian and Latvian border during the Baltic Way. I dont know why but the moment when Lithuania and Latvia connect is touching my heart(its a footage by Latvian people by the way)you can actually watch from 4:40:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICDrSn21 ... re=related

Some more videos about the baltic way: The soundtrack is Lithuanian. But you can understand much just from watching the videos and by reading my text above.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ8pPVVG ... re=related 1 part.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyIUxPOX ... re=related 2 part.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgyMBtpV ... re=related 3 part.

There is another heart touching never dieing Lithuanian song of freedom. it was very popular 20 years ago as it is now. Its translated to English. But not full. I will post Lithuanian and English. This song is very important to Lithuanians.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTpyn_o-Giw Lithuanian.
The English has a few mistakes, but its most important that you understand the main context.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCuelVcUggc

And for the end, the Lithuanian anthem. It helps us remember who we are, what we fought for. Its our most powerful weapon. Lithuanians stood infront of Russian tanks and soldiers unarmed and sang the anthem. In 1991 January 13. And it helped! Russians didnt know what to do! But unfortunetly 13 people died. Andf they will be forever remembered as heroes.

Translation of Lithuanian National anthem:
Lithuanian:
Lietuva, Tėvyne mūsų,
Tu didvyrių žeme,
Iš praeities Tavo sūnūs
Te stiprybę semia.
Tegul Tavo vaikai eina
Vien takais dorybės,
Tegul dirba Tavo naudai
Ir žmonių gėrybei.
Tegul saulė Lietuvoj
Tamsumas prašalina,
Ir šviesa, ir tiesa
Mūs žingsnius telydi.
Tegul meilė Lietuvos
Dega mūsų širdyse,
Vardan tos Lietuvos
Vienybė težydi!

English:

Lithuania, our homeland
You're land of heroes
From the past your sons
Are bailing strenghtness

Let your childs go
Only in the paths of virtue
Let them work for your benefit
And the good of people

Let the sun in Lithuania
Remove the darknesses
Let both light and truth
Follow our steps

Let the love of Lithuania
Burn in our hearts
In the name of this Lithuania
Let the unity bloom

Hey, here's a challenge for you all Lithuanian TACers this year
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oixGxUrU ... re=related

Does anyone want to try writing the lyrics? I've always listened to various Disney songs in different languages, but only these last two movies have been dubbed into the three main Baltic languages, and I only just found them :) And this version is one of the prettiest if I may so say :yep: So, if you would like to try, go on ahead! Should be some nice practice!

Ha, there are so many of us.
But anyway, I'll give it a try. There are probably many small mistakes and also a few words that I couldn't understand at all. I would really appreciate if someone who is a bit more proficient than me could check it. Or otherwise I might ask someone in the next days.

Aš mačiau juosių sį daug metų
žiburius kilančius dangus
nors toli, nors siekti pro langa
šildė ji mane

O dabar prieš akis pražysta
Kaip gyvi dabesi žvaigždžių
Štai o čia ir šviečia man
asiūjomis kartų

Pagaliau ilgai laukte
nušviesa žibintų rūko
šį naktis tokia viena
kaip pasiki čia dangus

Žibureli kiek viena
laka žmogiška širdale

Su manim naktį šią laimingą
Jas matai ir tu

Ir aš daug ikat turiu
Aš kudare atiduoti ankščiau, bet aš bijoju
o dabar aš – jau nebebijau, supranti?
Suprantu

Taip ilgai nieko nemačiau aš
Ne salię, ne savo sirdį
kaip migla mano abejones
man neleido kilt

Bet dabar man nereikia nieko
Aš matau švitint čia tave
Man gana kartų šalie
Aš dauga supratau

Pagaliau ilgai laukte
nušviesa žibintų rūko

There is a website with some Lithuanian lyrics: http://dainutekstai.lt

This is my today's favourite song with lyrics and a video (and my unprofessional translation):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rm1PcdP5UMY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nU_pCziVTE4

Indraya - Tobula

Tu savo mieste vieniša, (you are lonely in your city)
Negirdima kaip tobulo filmo daina. (you can't be heard like a song of a perfect movie)

Tu gyveni kaip žurnale (you live like in a magazine)
ir tavo siela atvira, (and your soul is open)
Taisyklių jūroje viena (in the sea of rules alone)
Turi atrodyt tobula. (must appear perfect)

Tu pamiršai, kas tu esi. (you forgot what you are)
Kodėl save taip kankini? (why do you torture yourself so much?)
Nenori būti nesvarbi (yyou don;t want to be unimportant)
Netikro veiksmo šurmuly. (in the bustle of a fake action (?))

Tu savo mieste vieniša, (you are alone in your city and lonely)
Negirdima (you can't be heard)
Kaip tobulo filmo daina. (just like a song of a perfect film)
Tau kartoja – esi tobula (you are being repeated by others - you are perfect)
Ir mylima. (and loved)
Tiktai akyse tuštuma. (but in your eyes is emptiness)

Tave taip liūdina lietus, (you are so saddened by rain)
Jis plauna rožinius dažus. (it (the rain) washes away your rose mascara)
Dirbtinių šypsenų fone (in the background of artificial smiles)
Tu sau atrodai svetima. (you appear so strange("foreign") no match of exact word for "svetima") to yourself)

Gali nutraukti grandines, (you can tear the chains up)
Tave suvaržiusias tiesas, (and the truths that "have made you uncomfortable")
Surasti mylimas akis, (to find loving eyes)
Pamiršti netikras viltis. (to forget fake hopes)

Tu savo mieste vieniša,
Negirdima
Kaip tobulo filmo daina.
Tau kartoja – esi tobula
Ir mylima.
Tiktai akyse tuštuma.

Tu pamiršai, kas tu esi.
Kodėl save taip kankini?
Nenori būti nesvarbi

Not really all alone as I'm living in Lithuania and there are some fellow learners here and many natives to help me out. :)

@Lietuvis: Thanks a lot, now all of it actually makes sense. My main difficulties seemed to be with correctly identifying some vowels (i/y, e/ia, long/short) and pronouns and other small words. This means more practice for these things.

Now more fun, if you will enjoy it. This is how Lithuanian would (approximately) be spelled if it was spelled like English is:

Aš mačiau juos jau šitiek metų
Ush muchow yewoes yow shityeck mertoo
žiburius kylančius dangun
jiburews keelanchews dungoong
nors toli, nors tiktai pro langą
norse tawlie, norse ticktye proh lurngawr
šildė jie mane
shildet yeah munneah

O dabar prieš akis pražysta
Awe duhbarre pryesh uhkiss prujeester
Kaip gyvi debesys žvaigždžių
Kuype geevie daebassiess jvuygjew
Štai aš čia ir šviečia man
shtye ush che ire shvyechya maan
aš su jomis kartu
Ush sue yawmiss cartou

Guys, I'm thick & tyred, who can do beta than this? Do you find it weird or entertaining?

I would LOVE if someone proposes a better English-spelling for the word "žvaigždžių". This is a game only.
