Frisian Internet Resources

Postby ILuvEire » 2009-01-12, 17:40

Here's some of the stuff I've found:

Frisian Portal: It has a great course, and tons of reading material in Frisian and other languages.

Omniglot: Frisian: It's got info about the orthography and writing system.

Web Page of Peter Meijes Tiersma: This guy has written an long informative article about the history of the Frisian language, and "Frisian Reference Grammar" (which he is selling for 20USD, but Amazon.com is selling it for 120USD).

So, I've sent the guy a check for the Frisian grammar book, now I just wait for it to arrive. :)

Jag har ikke Skype. I would like one, but I have no mic. I spend my money on things like Frisian grammars. :P

You need to get a mic. :P

And what do your parents think of you studying so many languages? My mom thinks I need to find one and stick with it, and when I tell her about whatever language, she thinks something like "not again  ".

Ha, they encourage me. I drag them in with me, with the language learning month thing. I've roped in a family member into every language I've learned so far (Norwegian with my Dad, Hawaiian with my Grandma, Portuguese with my Mom).

Hey Dminor, what are some Frisian - Dutch/English/German printed dictionaries you can recommend, and that ship to the USA?

Afûk's bookstore is the best, but I don't know if they ship to the USA. In any case they have this, for example, which seems to be a nice book in English (if you don't see the description click on the English flag on the right). I myself use these (1, 2, description in Dutch or Frisian) and this one, which are Frisian-Dutch/Dutch-Frisian. There's more on the site. :)

It would be nice to have the D>F and F>D dictionaries, but I don't have that much money. :(
I might have to get the F>E one, but that would require half the total amount of money I have.

Tyler: Did you ever get the book?

:hmm:

I just came across this 53-page Frisian course-book (in Dutch) for communication students. Looks interesting.

Leuk.

jij bestaat do bestiest
hij bestaat hy bestiet
zij bestaat sy bestiet
het bestaat it bestiet
wij bestaan wy besteane
jullie bestaan jim/jimme besteane

WFT, ftw 8-) I mean, yes, that's very good news indeed. :D Too bad for those of us who can't understand Dutch though.
