[flag]fr[/flag] Est-ce que l'on peut commencer plus tôt ou ça serait un problème?
[flag]de[/flag] Können wir früher beginnen oder wäre das ein Problem?

Begin whenever you want, but the challenge is only concerned with the improvements you make from the 1st of january.

Well as I understand it it's not really about winning anyway, just about sticking to it for a year. So everybody who finishes should get a medal for that anyway. And then we could have different categories, some that are more about artistic stuff (like writing a short story), some more technical ones (best pronunciation) and some fun ones (most entertaining blogging style, craziest language combination, most progress with little material available etc.)

I was just thinking, maybe for the assessment we could do it like the Best Language Elections, ie people can nominate other people, giving arguments and then everybody can vote (of course, there's the risk of people cheating, but a cheat can't enjoy winning anyway, so...)

Good one. It's always lovely to see someone doing Hindi.

Instead of having everyone's threads everywhere on the general forum, I posted mine on the blog embedded here in Unilang... and it would be nice if ''' could link them all on the first page with our names/languages. Could you do that?

Be aware, I sent the mods a letter asking them what they want, so they may move all the threads anyway. Best to leave your options open.

I don't foresee myself maintaining an online journal of my progress...but I'll join in spirit. 8-) After all the hoops I've had to jump through just to find learning materials for Solresol and Warlpiri, I'm ready to try a more commonly spoken language. I'm not sure whether to do Japanese, Arabic (MSA), or Persian...hmmm...

do persian. It's easy, regular, and IE, not to mention the shared vocab will give you good ground in Arabic.
