I wouldn't doubt it. :) Maltese is supposedly the highest paid language in translating/interpreting, as a result of their low number of translators/interpreters. I've heard they get paid around US$500 per hour.

Maltese, Arabic and Hebrew all belong to the same family of languages: the Semitic family. :)

Maltese is also the only Semitic language written using the Roman alphabet.

I've just read a very interesting article about the Maltese language in Le Monde Diplomatique. It's in French, but Le Monde Diplomatique has international editions in many languages, I didn't find this article in other languages but since it's from October 2007, maybe it's not on the web yet...

Anyway, it tells the history of the Maltese language, a very good read. :D

Merħba!
Jien student f’stati uniti u nipprova nitgħallem il-lingwa ta’ Malta għaliex nistudja l-ilsien għarbi u djalettha [djalettiha ? or djalettietha ?] fid-dinja – speċjalment id-djalett ta’ Tunis. U d-djalett ta’ Tunis tixbah il-lingwa Maltija ħafna. Nistudja id-djalett ta’ Tunis fl-universita’ bħal parti studjiet tiegħi, ta l-ilsien għarbi, u nħib nistudja il-lingwa maltija għaliex inhaseb illi b’dan il-mod infehem il « dialectology » ta’ l-ilsien għarbi aħjar.
Jekk jogħġbok irripara zballiet teigħi.
Grazzi !
