He's busy at his new job. He's seldom online, not to say 'never'. I hope he can come back soon, but that depends on his schedule. He's missed around.

As for transliteration, I also think it helps for learning a new language. And when I say transliteration, I'd rather have the words written in IPA signs of course, to be more precise about how to pronounce words correctly, but as it's a lot of work, casual transliteration seems like a good solution.
Omri would rather vote for IPA, but for daily practise, I suggest casual transliteration, and IPA signs for special cases.
That said, I am not saying that we should learn foreign languages with transliteration only, I only say it helps.
And we use transliteration very often in the Arabic forum indeed. I started using IPA only lately.
Advanced learners don't need transliteration anymore. But then we post bilingually, still.

Ah, the wonders of word-by-word translations  Makes me think how my own posts look in languages I don't really know

"היטב" (adverb) indeed means "well", but we don't use it in the sense of "alright" or "OK". For that we use "בסדר" (bseder). Actually "היטב" is almost never used in speech, only in writing... "עבר" (ever) is also rarely used.

I'm rather sceptic about this new "peace".

Babelfish you'd write like this: באבלפיש.

I know that Mariam uses "Uriah" in English also when she writes your name" וזה קצת דו-משמעי.

אני מבין את ההסבר לגבי "גם". אבל אתה יכול להסביר את החלק אחר באנגלית :?:

:silly:

I don't know what part exactly you meant by "the other part", so I'll just translate the entire thing:
The name Mariam I'd write in Hebrew מרים, Like the Hebrew name Miriam
As for "גם" - what you've written is correct, but for "as well" in English it's preferable to write "גם כן" and this can appear anywhere in the sentence. What you've written could be translated as "I know that Mariam uses 'Uriah' in English also when she writes your name" and that's a bit ambiguous.
(I meant, 'also' what exactly?)

Welcome aboard, dyjohen :P Ah, good, if you know Dutch, then at least you should be able to deal with the 'kh' which gives English speakers so much trouble...

Yes I don't think I'll have any trouble with pronounciation. I'm really exited to learn Hebrew. I think I just need the right book to begin learning how to put sentances together.
