Tar anseo agus labhair linn! - [Irish Language Discussion]

Postby DelBoy » 2006-07-03, 23:24

A Chríost, tá sé chomh marbh anseo na laethanta seo, nach bhfuil?

Bhí mé ag smaoineamh - b'fhéidir gur cheart dúinn (Gaeilgeoirí na hUnilang) comhrá a thosnú. Comhrá gan ceartúcháin (mura n-iarrtar iad, ar ndóigh!). Ná bíodh eagla ort botúin a dhéanamh (agus iad a dhéanamh go minic, má tá tú mar mise!). Sin an tslí is fearr chun feabhas a chur ar do chuid Ghaeilge!

Anois, teastaíonn ábhar plé uainn...
Aon moltaí?

Christ, it's dead in here these days, isn't it?

I was thinking - maybe we (the Gaeilgeoirí of Unilang) should start a discussion. A discussion without corrections (unless they are asked for, of course!). Don't be afraid to make mistakes (and make them often, if you are like me!). That's the best way to improve your Irish.

Now, we just need a topic...
Any suggestions?

Ok, níl "an fharraige" ag spreagadh comhrá...
Céard faoi seo... daoine a theastaíonn 'aistriúcháin' ar a hainmneacha uathu

Níor chuala mé riamh ó éinne "Cad é Scott i Spáinnis?", nó "Conas a deirfeá Rachel i nGearmáinis?". Cad chuige an Ghaeilge??

Ní thuigim. Is m'ainm Tomás i nGaeilge (agus Tomos/Tomas/etc. i gach dteanga) .. mar sin, níor mhaith liom a haistrigh m'ainm.

Midlake is ainm don bhanna agus seineann siad ceol indie-rock, is doigh. Ach tá aon amhrán atá mé i ngrá leis, is My Young Bride ainm dó (mo Bhrídeach óg). Níl agam ach éisteach leis.

...my Irish is really dying...It sucks! I wish I had enough brains to handle three languages at a time. I really love it...

A chairde uilig go léir,
Cé chaoi bhfuil sibh?
Cláraigh mé ar an suíomh seo cúpla mí ó shin ach ceapaim go bhfuil sé seo mo chéad 'phost'.

An fharraige
Is aoibhinn liom an fharraige cé gur máistreás
cruálach, allta í.

Ainmneacha as Gaeilge
N'fheadar go bhfuil fhios ag na daoine a sheolann na h-iarrtaisí seo isteach chugaibh go bhfuil sé deacair aistriuchán go Gaeilge a thabhairt ar ainm ar bith? Cinnte, tá sé easca go leor má tá chomhbhrí ag baint leis an ainm msh. Michael - Micheál.

Bhuel
Sin deireadh le mo raiméis chainte. Ach má tá fonn ort nó oraibh caint agus comhrá a dhéanamh liom as gaeilge, bainfeadh mé aoibhneas as a bheith ag teahmháil leat nó libh.

Mise le teann measa,
Kg

Yes, in Irish Patrick is Pádraig. A diminutive form may be Páidín. I am not an Irish speaker, so I do not know how to translate mwenye however.

Ah, thank you! i see you put an accent on it. does that mean, that one has to pronounce the first syllable?

In Irish accents mark the length of a vowel, so á is a long vowel and has to be pronounced.

Níor cheap mé riamh go mbíonn ciall ar bith leis ainmneacha a 'aistriú' go Gaeilge nó teanga ar bith eile, ach b'shin ceann de na rudaí beaga sin a gcaitheann muid a chur suas leo anseo. Is minic a chuirfear ceist ort cén 'Béarla' atá ar d'ainm Gaeilge, ach tá an 'traidisiún' sin ann.
Ach ar thaobh eile an scéil... is minic arb an-úsáideach an rud ar fad é péire leaganacha 'cearta' ded' ainm a bheith agat.... lol...

A Bhraoin, an bhfeacaís an snáithe seo? Más dóigh leat go bhfuil pearsantacht eile agat nuair a bhíonn tú ag labhairt teangan nach ionann leis an gceann atá ó dhúchas agat, tá ciall leis an dtuairim gur cheart a bheith ainm áirithe don phearsantacht eile sin. Tá go leor leasainmneacha agam i mBéarla cheana féin (ní "linguoboy" an ainm a thug mo thuismitheoirí dom!) , cad'na thaobh nár chóir gurbh é "Domhnaillín" ainm dom agus mé a labhairt Gaelainne?

Thairis sin, má chothaíonn an tsuim atá agesna tosaitheoiribh i bhfoghlaim Gaelainne, cad é an cás?
