For 2017 I will try once more to finish my TAC until the end. I have failed the first few times but I am confident I can change this year!
[flag=]pt-BR[/flag] Oi gente!
[flag=]it[/flag] Ciao amici!
Livello attuale: B2/C1
Obiettivo: C2
[flag=]scn[/flag] I decided I'll take a break and write this one in English. For those of you who do not know, I am ethnically Sicilian and learning Sicilian has always been very important to me. I have picked up a lot of words and phrases over the years by speaking to family and spending time in Sicily but I still feel as if I have tons to learn so I want to dedicate some time now to learn more of the language of my father's family. One of my main issues has been, well, resources. My family is from near Catania and every time I find a resource, it is for Sicilian from Palermo. I tried using the Sicilian I learned in these books with my famigghia and they understood essentially nothing. This is an issue when I need this language for the specific use of speaking to my family. When I was last in Catania, I found a book called "Vocabolario Catanese-Italiano" which is a large book with verb conjugations and a translation dictionary from Italian to Catanian Sicilian. I plan to use this as a resource as well as my family who I always speak to!
Current Level: Basic knowledge (A1?)
Obiettivo: Conversational Fluency (B1-2?)
(Levels are a bit harder to measure in Sicilian given the nature of the language)
[flag=]ar[/flag] I have been studying Modern Standard Arabic for a total of 1 and a half years in college (I have completed up until "Intermediate 1") and I need to improve a lot. I feel as if I know the grammar very well but my lack of vocabulary needs attention. I will resume Arabic classes in the Fall, but before then, I aim to improve my skills drastically and skip to the next level when that time arrives. The next level is "Intermediate 2," so I would skip to "Advanced 1." I also applied for the Critical Language Scholarship to study Arabic in the Middle East during the summer so we'll see if I get that pretty soon. If not, I'll carry on with studying anyways. I also plan on fulfilling my dream of going to Morocco this year! I know Modern Standard Arabic isn't very pervasive there but it might help right?
As far as resources go, I have an Arabic-English "Visual Dictionary" laying on my side table and I am obsessed with "Arabic with Maha" on Youtube. My main goal at the moment is to improve my vocabulary as well as listening/reading comprehension so these should be good resources for now - I'll add more later.
Current Level: A2
Objective: B1-B2
I have debated on whether or not I would include German and/or Hawaiian. Arabic itself was a little bit of a stretch as I already have a lot of time devoted to the first three. I'll decide with time on whether or not to throw one of these languages into the mix.
