New BBCode tags

Postby OldBoring » 2015-12-19, 16:35

I'm opening this thread to try the new tags that came with the new version of BBCode.

Code: Select all

[flash=width,height]http://url/[/flash]

Can't find a URL of a flash, so I can't try it with a working animation

Button ab [Remove all BBCode tags from the selected tags]: this is cool.

Code: Select all

[wiki][/wiki]

I think the UniLang wiki has been deactivated, so this tag is not useful

Code: Select all

[rp][/rp]

אַ שפּראַך איז אַ דיאַלעקט מיט אַן אַרמיי און פֿלאָט

Right-to-left paragraph.

Code: Select all

[r][/r]

A shprakh iz a dialekt mit an armey un flot (אַ שפּראַך איז אַ דיאַלעקט מיט אַן אַרמיי און פֿלאָט in Yiddish script)
Right-to-left fragment of text inside a left-to-right text. Is this the purpose?

Wow, so r, l, rp, syntax tree already existed in the old version?
And you can only use the syntax tree with that structure, with that number of branches? What do S, NP, VP, etc. stand for?

Not at all. Here's a more elaborate version of the tree from the link:

(S (NP (ART the) (NP (NP (N syntax) (N tree)) (N tag))) (VP (V needs) (NP (ART a) (NP (ADJP (ADV much) (ADJ better)) (N explanation)))))

OldBoring wrote:What do S, NP, VP, etc. stand for?
"Sentence", "noun phrase" and "verb phrase", respectively. You could use any labels you like.

Nope, you guys have this one:

Code: Select all

[lmod]Language forum moderator speaking[/lmod]

mod

Language forum moderator speaking

In other words, let the one without an l be.
Swedish (sv) native; English (en) good; Norwegian (no) read fluently, understand well, speak badly; Danish (dk) read fluently, understand badly, can't speak; Faroese (fo) read some, understand a bit, speak a few sentences; German (de) French (fr) Spanish (es) forgetting; heritage language.

Same as spoiler

I was wrong here (I've already edited the OP). The tag [ spoiler ] (spoiler) hides a portion of text with a a black stripe, and by moving the cursor on the black stripe the text will show.
While [ spoil ] (the yellow triangle with ! inside ) means that you can click on the button, and the hidden text will show. Click again and it will hide again. (yea, the result says "SHOW SPOILER" but the tag is spoil, without -er)
It's equivalent to the [ hidden ] of the old version, which was buggy. Let's hope this one is not. Not to be confused with the [ hidden ]of the current version, which makes the text visible to registered users only.

Yea, I've wondered what's the use of [ mod ] since we already have [ lmod ]. But I guess that [ mod ] (without l) could be useful when we edit other members' posts, so it's clear which moderator edited the post or added a not[ic]e.

admin

No, you should only use the purple tag.

The other one was automatically added when we upgraded the forum, but doesn't fit our structure. Like I said: let it be.

As for who, there's a box stating the reason for editing, add said reason and it will add a note telling who edited it as well.

Edit: Case in in point.
Swedish (sv) native; English (en) good; Norwegian (no) read fluently, understand well, speak badly; Danish (dk) read fluently, understand badly, can't speak; Faroese (fo) read some, understand a bit, speak a few sentences; German (de) French (fr) Spanish (es) forgetting; heritage language.

I wonder whether maybe OldBoring was asking whether admins can use the purple (lmod) tag, too.

In that case: yes we can, but the current praxis is that we use the same colour as our nicks :)

Using light blue for global mod stuff, purple for language mod stuff, and green for only admin stuff proved a bit too complicated.

Edit: Everyone can use all those tags, but if we catch someone using one without authorisation, they can look forward to an instant ban. Except if it's like this of course:

admin

Johanna says this and that, leaves it open for questions

Question about this.
Swedish (sv) native; English (en) good; Norwegian (no) read fluently, understand well, speak badly; Danish (dk) read fluently, understand badly, can't speak; Faroese (fo) read some, understand a bit, speak a few sentences; German (de) French (fr) Spanish (es) forgetting; heritage language.

Actually, I'm prevented from posting anything containing tags I'm not authorized to use, even in quotes.

That was news to me. But very welcome, I would hate it for some poor ignorant member to screw things up and end up with the threat of a ban...

Yeah, I just tried using the fadmin tags and then clicking "preview" instead of "submit," and I got a little warning preventing me from even previewing that because I'm not an admin and therefore I'm unauthorized to use it. :)

Great! :)

Being a forum admin, I'm also a global moderator and a language forum moderator, not to mention an ordinary member, so knowing what works on what level means either talking to you guys, or logging out and logging in on a dummy accounts just to check out that exact function. And we don't have any language forum moderator dummy account, not a global moderator one, since that would be unfair if anyone thought it to be real and tried to contact it.

Yea, it says: "You cannot use certain BBCodes: [ fadmin ]."
I asked because I was surprised that the three types of moderator's tags are different. I thought it was [ lmod ] for every moderator, and then it would show as purple, blue and green according to which type of moderator. :)

Nope, it's:

And us blue and greens can use all of them.
