Mysterious gray box of wonders?

There's a fancy little gray box at the top of the board. Whassit doin there? Does it grant wishes?

Oh, you mean the gray banner at the top of your screen cap? In Safari the gray color covers most of the interface except for a thin section at the bottom. I'm not a developer, but my theory is that it was a measure to improve the contrast of flags with white elements. In the discussion about flag codes, I remember seeing someone say that one of the only options was darkening the forum's background.

That seems to be it. I usually use Firefox and it doesn't appear on here, but I just checked with Chrome and it's there. Enjoy your shitbox while I enjoy browsing Unilang uninterrupted.

Edit: Now that Bryon posted I scrolled down all the way and yes, the gray shitbox covers almost the whole page like Dormouse and Bryon described.

It's exactly the same for me in Firefox.

I hate this new grey colour, it makes it harder to read posts and it looks ugly. I thought the flags looked fine before (without the borders). Is making the flags "look nicer" really more important than the ease of reading posts? I always felt UniLang was one of the most eye-friendly forums around, sadly, it isn't anymore.

I agree with this. In my opinion, changing the background so that flags look better is, as we say in Spanish, matar moscas a cañonazos (lit. killing flies with cannon shoots). Flags are, in my opinion, supplementary -there was a time when we didn't have flags, do you guys remember?- and the whole appearance of the forum shouldn't be compromised because of flags.

Flags looked already fine before. And btw, what's the matter with the white strip on the French one? [flag]fr[/flag]

I don't like the new gray. I thought it might grow on me, but it isn't really. The contrast between the black of the letters and the text screen is lost and it makes me sad.

I don't suppose you can show me a picture of what it looked like before? I know there's grey now where before there wasn't, but I'm still not sure exactly what changed.

See the lighter grey at the top? It used to be applied to all of the inner forum boxes. Even posts used to be lighter grey too.
