Yeah but it is still slightly confusing. For example, you can't view only external links,

When a bigger collection of links is built up it's going to be difficult to just find the unilang resources.

True, you'll always get the UniLang Resources as well. You can only switch between UniLang-Resources only and all resources including external links. I set the latter as default because I think most people don't really care where exactly the resource is from, they just want to find a good resource. But perhaps the switch-link on top of the page should be a bit more prominently visible? I have now made it green and bold to make it stand out more, let's see if that's any better.

I'm not sure if an "external-resource-only" view would have much added value. I think the way it's set up now there's a some extra attention on our own resources, since you always get them in either result view. Of course want to promote them a bit. :)

and if you select unilang resources only, when you go to page 2 it's switched back to all resources. So you can't view page 2 of only unilang resources.

Oh! That is indeed a bug, it should of course keep the same view. I have corrected it now.

Yeah, we definitely need a new category

I now added "Audio & Podcasts", which is then to be the category for standalone audio-clips, podcasts and audio book. Note that pronunciation guides go into "Pronunciation & Script". Vidcasts and vlogs should go under Videos I will try to manually move some external links that can go into the new category.

adding a few resources, I made a mistake with http://ell.phil.tu-chemnitz.de/cing/fro ... ndexer.php (Chemnitz Internet Grammar) and left off the target language... got an SQL error, but when I tried to enter it correctly it said it already existed with source EN.

it might be good to either validate the data before the form is processed and give us sorry souls a chance to fix things, but I also wonder what happened because the SQL error seemed to be one that I would have thought would not have inserted the data.

anyway, I will enter some more resources from my favorite bookmarks later tonight. (hopefully correctly ;))

Link problem

Postby Lemanensis » 2008-10-22, 9:47

Hi,

The link to the modern Hebrew resources site takes you to

www.hebrew.ecott.ch (with an error message obviously) instead of to www.hebrew.ecott.ch

Could you please fix it please?

Thanks :D

That's strange...

I copied the link http://www. unilang.org /www. hebrew.ecott.ch
into my message but when the message is received the link is corrected to www.hebrew.ch.

So now you think I'm a madman!

So, the link takes users to http:// www.unilang.org /www. hebrew.ecott. ch (without the spaces) and gives an error message...

Is it permissible to submit my own creations as an external link? I have made some pocket-sized grammar references, but I cannot be certain that they are free of errors, since I'm not a fluent speaker of the languages in question...

Certainly, they look great, feel free to submit them. If they're under a non-restrictive license, you could even submit them as PDF resources, instead of just external links.

Me too...
I found this thread a little too late, but who knows, maybe there is a place for two administrators :) .
I search for language learning resources on a regular basis and already have quite a large collection. Would love to help organise the links.

Link moderators do basically the following things:
- They like to surf language sites on the web and submit interesting pages they find, using our submit system
- All links that get submitted go into an activation queue (to guarantee a good quality of the resourceindex and protect against spam), link moderators are the people that review links submitted by others and either accept or discard submissions.
- They sometimes check existing links in the database and fix and reorder things where deemed necessary

It's okay to have multiple link moderators, and it's you can of course submit links also without being a link moderator.

Thus far the following people seem interested: chanakya2cool, sjheiss(?) and bibienne .
Are perhaps others also interested in being a link moderator? Then we can form a little team.

I visit lots of websites in my spare time (so after school and before I go to sleep :P), so I'd be glad to find and add sites, and remove ones that are broken. Sometimes I'll even find a language and read it's grammar when I'm bored. :silly:

Whoops, I submitted 3 resources, and on the last one I forgot to specify what category it goes in. It should go in the "stories" category. ;)

Sorry for the delay. Let's get things moving by appointing the three people that volunteered as link moderators, bibienne, ILuvEire and sjheiss , and then we'll just see how things go.

When you go to any of our Resource Index pages (make sure you're logged in), you will see a big red notice about links requiring activation, follow the link and you will see a control panel where you will have to explicitly "accept" or "discard" each submitted link. The instructions on the page should hopefully be self-explanatory. Sometimes it may be necessary to edit a link prior to activating it, the most common error is that people choose a wrong category.

Moreover, you can also edit links in the Resource Index, you will find a small "Administrate" link for each link.

In case of doubts it would be best to communicate with each other, and you can of course ask me too!

Thanks for letting me be a link moderator! I've already passed through some links.
But shouldn't we have a different color than forum moderators, so people can easily tell us apart?
