A few phrases

Hi,

I'm just starting to learn Slovak. It's hard to find language materials online for this language.

On a language site it suggests that you learn the following phrases in your target language. I would like it if someone could translate the following to Slovak for me to learn. (Some I think I know so I'll write these and you can correct me)

Hello / Good morning / afternoon /evening
Ahoj / Dobré rano / Dobrý den / Dobrú noc

Hi !
Ahoj

My name is ...
Volám sa ...

How old are you ?

Where are you from ? Also the necessary explanations you need to answer this one.

Are you married ? Also learn all the necessary explanations you need to answer this one.

I'm learning your language but do not speak it very well.

Sorry Sir, I did not understand the word XXX. You see, I'm learning your beautiful language...

Could you please write this word for me ?

How do you say that in Slovak?

Can you please write it down? Can you please spell it?

Just a few notes from a fellow learner:

"Good day" should be: Dobrý deň

How old are you? - Koľko máš/máte rokov?

Where are you from? - Odkiaľ si/ste?

To answer odkiaľ, use: Som z (plus country in the genitive case)

Are you married? - Si/ste ženatý (for males) vydatá (for females).

Not that big a note on answer this just:

Som ženatý. - I am married (male)
Nie som vydatá. - I am not married (female)

Natives can correct me, if I am wrong.

No, you are not wrong, you are right.

Dobrý deň means "good day" and it is used form 9.00 a.m. until there is light outside. Then comes "dobrý večer" (good evening).
There is also "dobré popoludnie" (good afternoon) or "príjemné popoludnie" (pleasant afternoon) but it is used only by radio speakers.
There is also "dobrý podvečer" (good late afternoon - before evening) but it is neither commonly used.

They do make a point about the materials not necessarily being suitable for self-study, e.g. the textbook is in Slovak language only, but I guess they didn't have UniLangers in mind when making this comment

Good link. I think the "not suitable for self study" areas are probably too advance for me at this stage but the basic Slovak looks perfect for me to start off.

I've ordered a copy of Colloquial Slovak. Has anyone had any experience of this book? Is is any good?

If you have any other good links for me to use to get a start on this language I'd be very pleased. Prosím
