Next lesson.

Now, I'll show how to make up some basic stuff, with verbs and nouns.

Книга [knýha]- book
Лист [lyst]- letter
Анґлійська мова [anglíjśka móva]- English language
Стіл [stil]- table
Будинок [budýnok]- house

Читати книгу [čytáty knýhu]- to read a book.(imp.)
Писати листа [pysáty lystá]- to write a letter.(imp.)
Вивчати анґлійську мову [vyvčáty anglíjśku móvu]- to learn the English language.(imp.)
Покласти на стіл [poklásty na stil]- to put on the table.(perf.)
Увійти у будинок [uvijtý u budýnok]- to enter a/the house.(perf.)

Imperative

Поклади книгу на стіл! [pokladý knýhu na stil]
Put the book on the table!
Напиши листа! [napyšý lystá]
Write a/the letter!
Зроби домашнє завдання! [zrobý domášn'e zavdánn'a]
Do the homework!
Увійди в будинок! [uvijdý v bydýnok]
Come into the house!

All these are in the perfect aspect. Usually, you just have to take away the prefix to make it imperfect. In this case, "входити" is an exception.
It becomes "входь у будинок!" [vchoď u budýnok].

Past Tense

In the Past Tense conjugation, the -ти suffix is dropped, and the following endings are added:

-В [v]- for masculine in singular ie if someone who you're mentioning is male, you add the ending. The endings are the same regardless of the person- prepositions are used to clarify that.
-ЛА [la]- for femenine in singular.
-ЛО [lo]- for neuter in singular.
-ЛИ [ly]- for plural, regardless of the gender.

For example:

я/він/ти знав- I/he/you(masc.) knew
я/він/ти робив- -//- did/was doing
я/він/ти забув- -//- forgot (perfect aspect)

вона/ти знала- she/you (fem.) knew
вона/ти робила- -//- did/was doing
вона/ти забула- -//- forgot

воно знало- it knew
воно робило- it did/was doing
воно забуло- it forgot

вони/ви знали- they/you (plural/formal) knew
вони/ви робили- -//- did/was doing
вони/ви забули- -//- forgot

Future Tense.

There are two ways to form the Imperfect Future in Ukrainian.

1. This one is very easy. You just put first the appropriate form of "бути"- "to be" in the future tense conjugation and then the imperfect infinitive of the needed verb.
Examples: (the verb "to be" is in bold)

Я буду робити- I will do/be doing
Він буде писати- He will write/be writing
Ви будете дивитись- You (pl./form.)will watch,look/be watching, be looking.
I am not a professional linguist, but I think that this way developed under the influence of Russian and Polish, in which forming the Future tense is similar.

2.Here, you add the following endings to the infinitive imperfect of the verb:

-МУ- for "I will"
-МЕШ- for "you will..."
-МЕ- for "he/she/it will..."
-МЕМО- for "we will..."
-МЕТЕ- for "you will..."
-МУТЬ- for "they will..."

Я робитиму- I will do
Ти робитимеш- You will do
Він/Вона/Воно робитиме- He/She/It will do
Ми робитимемо- We will do
Ви робитимете- You will do
Вони робитимуть- They will do

This conjugation is exclusively Ukrainian and is, as far as I know, non-existent in any other living Slavic language.

Here's a text, issued on a special card by the bank who you have an account with, after you have gotten your debit card:

Шановний клієнте!
Ви отримали пластикову міжнародну платіжну картку, яка є засобом доступу до Вашого рахунку.

Оберігайте картку від механічних пошкоджень та деформацій. Не зберігайте поблизу предметів-джерел магнітного випромінювання - це може призвести до втрати інформації, яка міститься на магнітній стрічці картки.

шановний- masculine singular adjective, used in official letters to mean "dear". Literally means "respected".
засобом- instr. case from "засіб", masculine, meaning, in this case, "means", but also "device" and "substance".
рахунку- genetive from "рахунок", meaning "account", masculine.
oберігайте- indicative in 2nd person plural from "оберігати"- "to save", "keep away".
пошкоджень- posessive/genitive of "пошкодження", meaning "damage", femenine.
зберігайте- indicative of "зберігати", having a similar meaning to "оберігати", but less aggressive. "оберігати", for instance, is used to mean "to guard".
джерел- genitive from "джерелa", meaning "sources". Singular- "джерело", neuter
випромінювання- "radiation", neuter.
втрати- genitive from "втратa"- "loss", femenine.
міститься- "is contained". Infinitive- "міститися".
стрічці- locative case of "стрічка", meaning "stripe", femenine.
Moja ulica murem podzielona - świeci neonami prawa strona, lewa strona cała wygaszona, zza zasłony obserwuję obie strony.

Мої вітання вам, шановні. Перепрошую, що так довго був відсутній- наразі нечасто буваю на цьому форумі.

Дуже приємно бачити ще одну людину, що зацікавлена в українській мові. Завжди радий допомогти- якщо є якісь питання- пишіть, не соромтесь.

Is Oleksij still in Ireland?

Darky- I've searched for them and haven't found anything serious. Go to www.word2word.com and search for Ukrainian courses- AFAIR, there is only one- I don't remember the address. As for dictionaries- I know a Ukrainian-Russian-Belarusian-Polish-English one- www.slovnyk.org
