abcdefg wrote:=))) Hey I thought I saw that post under my nick. Why suddenly I have so many twisted thoughts :D
(but aint that true :hmm: ?)

I accidentally clicked "Edit" instead of "Quote". I managed to restore the original content of your post.

abcdefg wrote:last year I went to rockstorm and was very amazed too lol. Got names like ngu cung, rosewood and unlimited there. Expected smth like buc tuong and such, but only a few bands played nu and alter, abt 2/3 of bands there chose metal, not extreme heavy bang ur head onto the wall stuffs

The problem with the "metal" label in Vietnam is that a lot of bands claim to play metal but in actuality just hard rock (Bức Tường, Ngũ Cung) or hard alternative rock (Rosewood and *cough* Microway *cough*). But the newer generation really seems to know what modern underground metal is supposed to sound like!

But there are things to be desired. I'm still waiting for the Vietnamese equivalents of Tristania, Paradise Lost and ChthoniC. :hmm:

abcdefg wrote:there's a ngu cung club here where allows rock/metal bands to play gigs, but the only time I came there the music was... just like noise, and not even artistic.

A Singaporean grindcore band called WormRot did play at Amoured Fish. It's truly extreme, tuneless noise. My hearing was terrible afterward.

abcdefg wrote:Ah, and YOU go to extreme metal gig ?

I was alone, but it's still great fun.

I can't sync with noises. Would be too intense for my ears and soul.
But the kind of noises I heard wasnt like that. The band was very amateur, their child sounded like random notes put together. Like potatoes in a bag, no link, no relevance.

ChthoniC?
I've never thought Vietnamese metal could be equivalent to that of Europe. Hopes are not that high. I just hope our music will get better, but any comparison now still sounds very.. :? :d

By the way, Happy Tết! :D

Well, I mentioned Purple Balloon. Managed to find a hit of theirs online (a hard task, cuz they're so deeply underground) - "Wake Up":
http://hehemetal.com/mediaz/purple-balloon/wake-up

Seismic Origin has only debuted their first single - "Fly": http://mp3.zing.vn/mp3/nghe-bai-hat/Fly.IW6B0EAD.html
So that means I was among the first crowd to see it live.

One thing I really dig about this "third wave" of Rock Việt: the new bands seem to have much better access to decent technology. The resulting sound is no longer crappy like before, but more layered, richer. Take Purple Balloon above and the metalcore acts of ZigZag (http://mp3.zing.vn/mp3/nghe-bai-hat/Nga ... ZI87I.html) and WỪU (http://hehemetal.com/mediaz/w-u/thui-qua) for example.

But their English songwriting definitely needs improvement. T______T The worst perpetrator of crimes against the English language is Black Infinity.

I think they want to create a complex layer to their lyrics. Like, melody that many hate, and lyrics that no-one can understand :hmm:

Oh lol, I didn't mean to bash them, though the looks of the guys are kinda turn-off :P (what's with you and Koreans though?). The lyrics and the atmosphere of the song quite... touched, I think, I actually could feel something out of it. 8->

A slow, lovely, light song with the lyrics I can never decipher. Typical. Just like any other song from Quốc Bảo.

A lot of my friends like that song, especially the last line. But Idk, the lyrics sound wrong to me, somehow. "Một lần yêu thôi, về thắp nén linh hương trong lòng", what is that??!

Có lẽ cô gái trong bài đã chết (!?) và trong một buổi chiều mát mẻ trời mây xám như Hà Nội hôm nay, một ai đó nhớ đến cô ấy, rất nhẹ nhàng và trong sáng...

Another song I like, is Em về tinh khôi. I especially like the cover by Lê Hiếu.

Everything was grey in the morning and early afternoon. Light winds. It was cool. By 3 or 4 o'clock, the sky lightened up a bit, there was a faint sun behind the clouds and we had a little amount of sunlight.

I was surprised coming across this garage band. Don't know which city they're from, but there's a lot of potentials there. The composition is sleek and intriguing, à la... god forbid, Nirvana. With better vocal and English writing, you wouldn't think it's made in Vietnam. :hmm: What a waste.

Waiting for it to load. Skimmed through the lyrics, I think I like it :). ("Chợ Tình", lol).
Edit: I don't like the vocal. Everything else is ok. Maybe because of the recording tech. I like this more (another group). They only cover as far as I know, but the quality is.. great !

@Mai Anh: Sounds a bit like in London, lol ^^ with fog and grey sky.
