"Le Kurde Facile" by Kamuran Bedirhan (which I have in Turkish, "Kolay Kürtçe"), has a list of explanations which define what words are male and which ones are female.
There is rules such as "all words for numbers are male, except the one for 'one (-> yek is female)
-all colours are male
-all metals and minerals are male
-except hirî (wool), liva (lamb wool) and lorik (a type of dairy roduct in Turkey called çökelek) all products made by hand from animals kept by people are male, as are all dairy products
There is more as for male names, and the list for female names is much longer indeed.
Cannot type out/translate everything here, but anyway there are so many exceptions to every rule, that I don't find the rules much helpful myself.
oh, and I'll have a go at playing:
fîstan - dress, robe
