andhkaar ,andhkaar ko door nahin kar sakta ,
sirf roshni kar sakti hai

nafrat ,nafrat ko khatm nahi kar sakti
sirf mohabbat kar sakti hai

اندھکار ،اندھکار کو دور نہیں کر سکتا
صرف اجالا کر سکتا ہے

نفرت نفرت کا خاتمہ نہیں کر سکتی
صرف محبت کر سکتی ہے

अन्धकार ,अन्धकार को दूर नहीं कर सकता
सिर्फ उजाला कर सकता है

नफरत ,नफरत का खात्मा नहीं कर सकती
सिर्फ प्यार कर सकता है

Postby kindengroei » 2015-07-13, 15:16

Hi everyone!

I would like to know the translation of 'Indian growth charts' in hindi (signs!).

With growth charts I mean the charts that are being used by peadiatrics to measure and document the growth of a child.

Can someone help me with that?

Thanks in advance.

Urdu translation

Postby Mayram0000 » 2015-09-11, 8:16

Could someone please translate the following text ti urdu?

"Bride money is an archaic form for prostitution, where the money does not go directly to the woman being sold, but to the womans family, and instead of the payment involving a one-time sexual encounter, the payment covers sexual encounters for the duration of the marriage.

Cousin marriages are common in many rural areas, mostly in Pakistan, thus disregarded as pervert and a source of disgustion in the rest of the world. Many muslims, mostly Pakistanis, claim that it is legal according to the Quran as it is not explicitly forbidden, but most of the muslim world does not practise thos, and it is illegal in many muslim countries and in most countries of the world as we now know the dangers of inbreeding. Usually cousin marriages are arranged by families, with the egoistic goal to keep the familys wealth and property safe. Forced marriages are illegal, and people involved in forcing others to marry, direct or indirect, may face years of prison in many countries.

There may be direct or indirect forcing of the couple to get, and stay, married. Emotional blackmailing using elderly and sick relatives are oftenly used. It will be claimed that relatives may get sicker or die if the arranged couple does not get married according to the familys plan or gets a divorce, making it hardly possible to not do as the family pleases.

When cousins marry and reproduce, their children face a higher risk of birth defects, both mental and physical, which may be evident from birth or emerge later in life, as their parents are closely related and have a greater risk of carrying two defect genes. (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... -risk.html)

Mental retardation may show as hyperactivity, agression, learning difficulties and more, but these facts will be disregarded and denied by most muslim families as they often see it as Allahs will and have too big economical interests in the couple being married.

The easiest way to see if the family are the ones having selfish interests in the marriage is to deny the arrangement of the marriage or, if already married, discuss possibilities of divorce, as a loving and caring family will have the couples interests in mind, and thus have no problem with a divorce if the couple is unhappy."

Thank you!!!!

What does "kar sakta hoon" means in this example?

Postby Nikar » 2015-11-18, 16:25

I'm learning from this video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCttAtN ... qF2OPGqwKq

According to the video, the informal way of saying "Can I help you" is "Kya Main Tumhaari Madad Kar Sakta Hoon".
I can understand the usage of "Kya Main Tumhaari Madad", but what does "Kar Sakta Hoon" means?

These seem to be un-necessary words that came out of nowhere. "hoon' in Hindi means "am", right?
Not sure why it's used here.

Kar is the stem of karnā "to do". It is necessary in order to complete the verbal expression madad karnā "to help" because madad is a noun. (In English, nouns are commonly used as verbs with no change in form. This is simply not possible in Hindi.)

Saktā is the imperfective participle of saknā "to be able". (Unlike the English verb can, which is defective, the Hindi equivalent can be fully conjugated exactly like any other verb.) It is used with the copula honā to form the habitual tenses. With the present tense conjugation of honā, it forms the present habitual tense which roughly corresponds to the English simple present.

So none of these words is "unnecessary". It only seems this way if you are expecting a word-for-word match between Hindi and English. (You can't even translate word-for-word between English and German, and they're much more closely related languages.)

It means - I can do. Not in a word to word sense,Kar - do ,sakta - I can ( Male),Hoon - An auxiliary verb in the present tense.

Can anyone translate this from Urdu to English?

Postby nfralick » 2015-11-24, 17:19

Hello! This is my first post here, and I hope it will be the first of many more.

My father in law found this item recently, and from what I can tell through web searches, it looks like it's in Urdu. Is anyone here able to translate it to English? The images of the item can be found here: http://s664.photobucket.com/user/ktorvalds/library/

Thank you!!

I'm pretty sure it's not Urdu but Farsi. I'm not very good at reading Urdu but I know Hindi, and I couldn't recognize anything in this document except a few words. According to the script style, I believe it can almost only be either Urdu, Farsi or Pashto. Looking for Iranian lion stamp photos showed me things looking a lot like the stamp on your document.

Maybe you should ask on the Farsi forum.

This is in fact Persian. It's a driver's license from before the 1979 revolution. I can translate the details but it's pretty standard stuff...
Please correct my mistakes in any language.
