You're quite right. Although I think that Si.mobil is usually treated as a single word with the primary stress on the first syllable and a secondary stress on the last syllable of the word, so: /ˈliːga ˈsiːmɔˌbil ˈʋoːdafɔn/.PiotrR wrote:My guess is /ˈliːga si mɔˈbiːl ˈvoːdafɔn/.

Pretty much. Although compound words do have two stresses, but I'm not sure how the length actually works there (my native pronunciation doesn't help here).PiotrR wrote:Ashucky wrote:If it's just the word itself, then it's mobíl, but Si.mobil is usually treated as a single word, not even a compound because it's short, so símobil.
Ok. According to what I've read, that results in a short vowel in mobil, because long vowels are possible only in stressed syllables.
True. And good luck, though! But at the same time I should point out that there's some serious debate whether vowel length really is phonemic even in the standard pronunciation (the traditionalists say there is, of course) or just allophones of short vowels in stressed syllables.PiotrR wrote:Ashucky wrote:But don't worry, vowel length in Slovene is more of a marginal feature, as long as you stress the right syllable, it works just fine.
I understand, but standard pronunciation does have a phonemic length distinction. I'm trying to model my accent on it.
I'm attachign the file. I hope my pronunciation is clear enough. I don't think I have any real vowel length, though.PiotrR wrote:Ashucky wrote:If you want, I can record the phrase so you can hear it how it sounds.
Good idea! Hearing it pronounced by a native speaker certainly won't hurt
There's some significant vowel reduction but it depends on the dialect, some have more, some have less. But it's not the same as in Russian. Vowels tend either to simply disappear (often together with some consonants) or get turned to schwas, which applies to stressed vowels as well, so you get stressed schwas too.IpseDixit wrote:Hello everyone, I have a question (I know nothing about the language so sorry if it may seem idiotic): does Slovenian have vowel reduction like Russian?

Lahko priporočite tudi sinhronizacije. Rad gledam risane filme v tujih jezikih; to poletje sem gledal celo serijo "Teen Titans" sinhronizirano v italijanščino, iz nostalgije in zaradi priložnosti uriti italijansko. Všeč sta mi bila (tudi) Ledeno kraljevstvo in Vrvež v moji glavi v srbščini. Če veste, kje ju najti, (se priporočam).
Hvala vnaprej.
