I came up with the idea of a new game where I give a word then the person after me writes a sentence (a long one if possible) including that word then the person after them takes a word out of that sentence and forms another phrase using it then the one after them does the same etc. And then it could go on till we like.

E.g. given that the word I give you is "hörcsög"
#1: A hörcsögök Ázsiából származnak, de ma már sok otthonban megtalálhatjuk őket díszállatként.
#2: Ázsia egy hatalmas kontinens, ahol rengeteg féle kultúrával találkozhatunk.
#3: A leghatalmasabb élő állat a Földön a bálna.

etc.

A filozófiát Görögországban/a görög filozófiát nehéz megérteni.

1. understand sg. - accusative! Hence "filozófiát".
2. No need for the 'van' here as this is a general statement.

írtam oda: you can't say "írtam" by itself unless you want to say "I was writing (period)." or if it was someone you wrote to "I wrote to you" -> Írtam neked. ... or if it's the general deed of writing, like "I wrote a book." - "Írtam egy könyvet." There's one other case though, and that's when you'd already given the details of your writing. -> Írtam dolgokat. - I wrote things.

Okay, I think I overcomplicated it, it's pretty much analogous to English, where you can't just write "I wrote the English translation." ... or, well, now that I think about it, you can, but that's different again, that implies that you're done writing, i.e. the information is already written down. Then you'd say "Leírtam." -> "Leírtam az angol fordítást." (le meaning "down" on its own) or "Megírtam az angolfordítást."...but that's different again, hard to explain. The other version with "oda" is more natural anyways.

In this case (fordítást írtam oda), you have to include "oda" to indicate the place you wrote what you did. Also, notice it's "oda", not "ott", as it doesn't refer to the place/situation of something, but rather tells you where the result of your action happens to "get placed".
