On a sort of sun dial in a park i read the following words. i thought it was a sun dial but i am unsure. maybe once i get the translations of what was written on it i'll understand better.

it read:

abit hora
solus adit lux
umbram addit crux
datur hora
umbram addit nox
hinc abit umbrae vox

The sun-dial reads as follows, I believe:

The hour departs,
the sole light approaches,
the cross adds shadow,
and the hour is given.
The night adds shadows,
and the voice of shadow leaves

I'm not sure seeing solus is nominative singular masculine, and nothing matches such. So I've taken the liberty of calling it a mistake. Anyone can correct me of course.

Your translation is correct, just one small thing, the last line should have a "from here" in it, that's what hinc means. And yeah, solus doesn't make any sense as you said, lux is feminine, so it should be sola.
