Norwegians will be able to watch ‘Lilyhammer’ first

Postby Raufoss » 2012-01-22, 20:37

NRK to air ‘Lilyhammer’ TV series

Norwegians will once again be the first to see the new locally produced television series Lilyhammer, after state broadcaster NRK settled a conflict over alleged and illegal product placement. The conflict ended after producer Rubicon edited or retouched several scenes in the show.

NRK still wanted to air Lilyhammer, starring US actor and musician Steven Van Zandt, but feared violation of laws against product placement. Now, with those fears put to rest, the series will premier Wednesday January 25 at 9:40pm.

Fikk sett premieren.

‘Lilyhammer’ sets new NRK record

A new television series starring Steven Van Zandt finally started running in Norway on Wednesday, after a lot of local media hype and unexpected delays. The show, called “Lilyhammer,” ended up being watched by nearly a fifth of the country’s entire population, and Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) officials are mighty pleased.

De norske «Lilyhammer»-skuespillerne får skryt i LA Times

Television review: 'Lilyhammer'

In "Lilyhammer," whose eight parts debut Monday as an exclusive Netflix stream, Steven Van Zandt retries his Silvio wig from the "Sopranos" costume box to play Frank "The Fixer" Tagliano, a New York mobster who retreats into witness protection in Lillehammer, Norway. He remembers the town from broadcasts of the 1994 Winter Olympics as a place of "clean air, fresh white snow, gorgeous broads" and figures it will be the last place anyone would think to look for him. You know how that will go.

I watched episode two last night and liked it very much.

Here's the link to another review that I just read:

Review: Netflix and Hulu's new scripted originals

The 50-minute-long "Lilyhammer," for which Van Sandt is also a producer and writer, is the more intriguing of the two. It often feels almost like a parody of a "Sopranos" spinoff: If we're going to have Silvio in Scandinavia, then how about Paulie Walnuts in Walla Walla? Or Uncle Junior in Jakarta?
I'm assuming that "Sopranos" was shown on Norwegian television. I only watched a few episodes myself, but would be interested to know what other forum members thought of this program.

One gets the sense that "Lilyhammer" would be funnier to Norwegians. Mostly, Giovanni is portrayed kindly, a straight-talking dose of manly aggression who runs roughshod over softer, peaceful Norwegian folk. It's entertaining enough, but about as subtle as "Sopranos on Ice!"
I agree that "Lilyhammer" is probably funnier to Norwegians than it is to most Americans, but I think "Lilyhammer" should be required viewing for Norwegian-Americans, especially those of us who have spent enough time in Norway to understand some of the more significant cultural differences. :)

Yeah, Norwegians will probably understand the the cultural conflicts better. Not that I can point out anything, but I think a lot of small jokes get past American viewers.

I have seen Sopranos, wich is on my top 5 list of television series ever. It's 10 leagues over Lilyhammer. My problem with Lilyhammer is maybe my expectations. I expected a more serious and slow-going series, while it seems like the series rush to make a joke, or rush to make it progress.

Anyway, an OK show.

One example would be from Episode 2 when the policeman has a confrontation with the Muslim cook while he is waiting for his food to be cooked and then when the police chief walks in he says "This idiot is giving me the whole Mullah Krekar routine here."

I don't think most people in the U.S. would recognize the name Mullah Krekar, unless they happened to watch Episode 2 shortly after he had been mentioned in the news here. Krekar has received some attention by the U.S. news media, including some coverage yesterday, but not nearly enough for him to be a household name in this country. ;)

Iraqi-born Islamist cleric in Norway terror trial

In 2009, on NBC's news program "The Wanted," Krekar said that America had deserved the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, and condoned suicide bombings against Americans in Iraq. Because the interviews were conducted in Norway, he is being tried in the Scandinavian country for these statements.

“LillyHammer” TV Show Reveals the Corrupt, Alcoholic Culture of Socialist Norway

I had the great displeasure of receiving a promotional copy of a new television show the other day. It contains hours of sex, immorality and mafia gangs that prowl lunatic disco clubs for drunken victims. The program is called LillyHammer and it depicts the tragic European nation of Norway.

Most of Norway’s problems can be traced back to the fact that the country practices an extreme form of socialism, which very much borders on communism. Since World War II, they have been a nation of appeasement and weakness. Most live off government assistance and theft, hoping for a paycheck from their municipalities instead of actually doing something worthwhile with their lives. This is revealed with painful detail in the television show and it is a sad fate indeed.

‘Lilyhammer’ set for second season

Norway went on a sort of withdrawal Wednesday night. After months of hype and eight weeks of record ratings, the Norwegian TV series “Lilyhammer” wrapped up its first short season on state broadcaster NRK. Plans are underway for a second season, as soon as the show’s star gets leave from his main “Boss,” Bruce Springsteen.

Never before has a series on Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) attracted such consistently high ratings as Lilyhammer did. Around a million Norwegians, fully one-fifth of the country’s entire population, tuned in week after week since the show’s belated premiere in late January, delayed by a flap over violation of Norway’s product placement laws.

‘Lilyhammer’ draws high ratings and mixed reviews

Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) scored another round of high ratings when it aired the first episode of the new season of the hit TV show “Lilyhammer” on Wednesday. Public reaction was decidedly mixed, though, with some viewers finding the show more violent and less funny.

Triste nyheter i dag for fans av TV-programmet Lilyhammer. :(

‘Natural end’ for ‘Lilyhammer’

Streaming giant Netflix confirmed on Thursday that it won’t be involved in any more episodes of the popular TV series ‘Lilyhammer’ starring Steven Van Zandt. The series was produced and launched in Norway but later became an international hit.
