Norwegian football fans are cheering again

Postby Raufoss » 2010-09-08, 19:10

After Norway's historic victory over Portugal yesterday I have been inspired to write the following "på norsk" to my Facebook friends:

"Norwegian football fans are cheering again."

Her er mitt forsøk:

Norske fotballfans heier igjen.

Would it be better to use "fotballsupportere" instead of "fotballfans"?

It was Norway's victory over Portugal along with this article that inspired me to write what I did:

Football fans cheering again

Portugal-Norge 1-0 :(

Postby Raufoss » 2011-06-04, 22:55

Portugal-Norge 1-0 :(

Portugal-Norway 1-0: One seconds inattention was enough. Now Drillo must take points away against Denmark.

Football: Portugal - Norway 1-0

Norway's defense prevented favorites Portugal from dominating the Group H Euro 2012 qualifier in Lisboa Saturday evening, but a 53rd minute goal from Helder Postiga gave Portugal a 1-0 win.

Norway coach Egil "Drillo" Olsen summed up: - We must be able to score on the several chances we had in this match. They won deservedly, but we were not far behind.

Norway's keeper Rune Almenning Jarstein put on a good performance throughout the match.

Portugal, Denmark and Norway are level on 10 points at the top of the section having played five games apiece.

Norge slo USA i treningskamp

Postby Raufoss » 2011-06-27, 13:09

Last week Norway played a closed door training match in Austria against the USA and came from behind to defeat the top ranked team in the world by a 3-1 score. If Norway can get a few more results like this during the next two weeks, Norwegian football fans will certainly be cheering again for "de norske fotballjentene." :y:

Norge bygget VM-selvtillit med 3-1 over USA

Norge (4-2-3-1): Ingrid Hjelmseth - Hedda Strand Gardsjord, Maren Mjelde, Nora Holstad Berge, Guro Knutsen Mienna - Ingvild Stensland, Trine Rønning - Emilie Haavi, Madeleine Giske, Elise Thorsnes - Isabell Herlovsen.

Norway didn't play well, but still won the match. I look forward to a much better effort against Brazil.

Landsem: – Dette holder ikke!

Landsem: - This is not enough!

Norway - Equatorial Guinea 1-0: There was a time, but far from delighted coach Eli Landsem who took stock of their World Cup baptism under fire.

- This is not (good) enough. We will be sent home soon if we do not perform better, she said after the 1-0 victory against Equatorial Guinea.

- We were effected a little by the fact that it was the opening match, and it was very hot. The first five minutes were very good, but then we started to mess it up. We won in the end on a bad day, but I do not think we scared anyone, she said.

She felt that Equatorial Guinea created chances very easily, while Norway struggled to capitalize on their own opportunities.

- It was not the plan, and it was fortunate that they didn't score on any of their chances. It was very good to have Ingrid (Hjelmseth) at the back. We struggled to move our legs in the heat, she noted.

But in all the dissatisfaction with the performance was the joy of the three huge points.

- We would have made it difficult for us to 0-0, but now we've given ourselves a good chance to move on. We continue strong in the belief. We have a plan, and we can do much better than this. If we had been better today then we would put the nail in earlier.

She thought that apart from the goalkeeper most were below par on Wednesday, but had some praise for the match winner.

- Emilie (Haavi) is full of young spirit, and luckily she was able to put it towards the end.

Tyskerne vil vite alt om fotballjentene

Germans want to know all about the football women. "What underwear does Sofia Jakobssen use? where does Ariane Hingst wash her clothes?" - a couple of things you didn't want to know about the World Cup.

The tournament's first five days have passed; football fever runs high in the host country. The media are in close attendance, the Nationalelf in particular. Positive for the game, you might think, and perhaps it is, in the big picture. Football girls who complain about too much attention point to its triviality. But most agree that the borders of what is interesting are being stretched, especially by the tabloids.

Sweden's Sofia Jakobssen has noticed it. At the yellow-shirts' opening match against Colombia she was photographed from behind as she organised her kit. Her thong rode up under her trousers, giving Bild a photo captioned: "The Swedes use Hennes & Mauritz underwear". The paper's comment was, "now all we need is a subs' bench from Ikea".

http://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/fussb ... .bild.html

There is nothing the German papers don't go through. Earlier in the week, German defender Ariane Hingst had a break from training. "At 09.47 Ariane Hingst walked out of the hotel, went to the T-bane station, bought a ticket and sat on the train", Bild told its readers. That was not enough: "Hingst lives near the hotel, and took her dirty washing home", wrote Bild. The paper was also watching Kim Kulig, Alexandra Popp, Annike Krahn and Verena Faisst. "They left the hotel at 10.20 to go shopping", it says, "33 minutes after teammate Hingst".

Journalist Michael Knippenkötter explains the cut-throat competition for exclusive news. "Competition is acute when it comes to the women's national team", he said to Bergens Tidende. He works at TZ, the biggest tabloid in Munich, and is travelling from city to city with the team. "When a match is coming up we are up to 50 journalists following everything that happens. It's all about finding an angle additional to what happens on the pitch, a story that can be told", said Knippenkötter.

He tells of the huge development in the last years. "Everything is regulated the same as the men's national team. The women are very professional now, much more than four years ago, and there is a mixed zone after training sessions", he said.

Despite all this, everyday interest in women's teams is still modest. The average crowd at league matches is around 1000, and the German Football Association is hoping for a revolution, but Knippenkötter has his doubts about it becoming a reality. "Interest will increase, but not a lot. There is a big difference in the levels in the league".

Pedersen får trolig sjansen

On Sunday Brazil will be waiting for the Norwegian players. Cecilie Pedersen hopes to start the match in the packed Volkswagen Stadium at Wolfsburg. The 20-year-old from Førde came in as a sub when Norway beat Equatorial Guinea 1-0 on Wednesday. At Friday's formation training session in Wolfsburg it was Pedersen who had the most time at the front in the expected first eleven, so it looks as if Eli Landsem is planning a change of striker. Isabell Herlovsen had some big chances against Equatorial Guinea without being able to score.

"I have not been told anything yet, so I'm not sure if I will start. We have both been told we will have a lot of match-time, and they have to look at the opponents before they decide who to use", said Pedersen to bt.no.

Pedersen has had trouble with her club, Avaldsnes in division-1. "I have played one match at Avaldsnes this year and my contract lasts to October. I want to change clubs, but whether it will be at home or abroad I don't know", she said. She thinks her chance against Brazil are good. "In spite of the club situation I have trained a lot and played a lot of training matches with the national team. Fot the last weeks I have not thought about the situation at home", she said.

Neither Lene Mykjåland nor Guro Knutsen Mienna trained on Thursday. Indications are that Mykjåland will not be available for Sunday, which means that Arna-Bjørnar's Madeleine Giske will probably start again as an attacking midfielder. Giske was taken off at half time against Equatorial Guinea. "I was told it was not because of my performance, but it's obvious to most that we will have to raise our game several notches from that match", said Giske.

The Volkswagen Arena is sold out for Sunday, which means around 26,000 spectators. The match will be at 18.15. The temperature in North Germany is 18 degrees at present, which should suit the Norwegian girls much more than the 30 degrees they experienced in Augsburg in the first match.

From the formation training we can expect this starting eleven: Ingrid Hjelmseth - Hedda Gardsjord, Maren Mjelde, Nora Holstad Berge, Marita Skammelsrud Lund - Ingvild Stensland, Trine Rønning - Emilie Haavi, Madeleine Giske, Elise Thorsnes - Cecilie Pedersen.
