I'm fresh off of a long few months in Central and Eastern Europe, with a nice, week-long stay in Warsaw. The shame was my Polish wasn't too strong, so I decided I wanted to relearn it. I've reactivated my account here, too.

That being said, I've found a few great Learn Polish grammar and work books that I'm working through. I just did the lesson on the Instrumental singular (including nationality, jobs and adjs.), which I think I've got down. I did a made-up excersice, though, and was wondering if someone could take a quick look-through and let me know if there are any mistakes:

1. Matka zajmuje się pracą w domu.
2. Mój chłopiec nigdy nie pisze ołówkiem.
3. Moja dziewczyna jest mądrą pisarką.
4. Ta młoda kobieta jest nową lekarką.
5. Jej mąż interesuje się niezwykłm (non-ordinary?) domem.
6. Czy swoja żona jest Szwajcarką?
7. Codziennie podróżuję pociągiem.
8. Ta malarka jest Austriaczką. - I also read somewhere that this could be Austriacka?
9. Wysoki dziennikarz jest Anglikiem, a inna dziennikarka jest Francuzką.
10. To nauczyciel jest stary. On mieszka między szkołą i kościołem.

2. Your sentence is correct if you mean "My boy (son) never writes with pencil". But if you meant "My boyfriend..." then it should be "Mój chłopak"

8. Your sentence is correct. Austriaczka (noun), austriacka (adjective). "Ta malarka jest austriacka" doesn't sound good. But if we change the sentance a bit... "To jest austriacka malarka." Then it would be correct.
10. There should be "Ten nauczyciel" instead of "To nauczyciel"

This sentence is gramatically correct, but it sounds strange, if you mean "my boy" in the meaning of "my son", then better would be "Mój syn..." and if you mean "my boyfriend", then "Mój chłopak..."

5. Jej mąż interesuje się niezwykłm (non-ordinary?) domem.

Here is a typo, should be "niezwykłym" . And yes, niezwykły means non-ordinary, extraordinary.

6. Czy swoja żona jest Szwajcarką?

No, no, no, not "swoja", because now it doesn't make sense, it sounds like "Is she, being her own wife, a Swiss?" or something like that... It should be "Czy twoja żona...?" if you mean "Is your wife...?" and "Czy moja żona...?" if you mean "my". Anyway, there should be possesive pronoun (moja, twoja, jego...). Rest of the sentence is correct.

8. Ta malarka jest Austriaczką. - I also read somewhere that this could be Austriacka?

First: your sentence is absolutely correct.
Second: No, "austriacka" is just adjective of Austria, it could be "To jest austriacka malarka" (with "austriacka" written with lower-case letter) meaning "This is Austrian painter".

9. Wysoki dziennikarz jest Anglikiem, a inna dziennikarka jest Francuzką.

Correct, however I'd like to see original sentence, because, at least for me, "Ten wysoki dziennikarz (...), a tamta dziennikarka (...)" would sound more natural, and mean "The tall journalist is English and the (other) (female) journalist is French".

10. To nauczyciel jest stary. On mieszka między szkołą i kościołem.

"Ten nauczyciel jest stary." (the (or this) teacher is old) or "To jest stary nauczyciel" (this is an old teacher).

Faster doesn't mean better, however it's nice that we see the same mistakes living in two opposite corners of Poland.

You could say "to nauczyciel jest stary" to mean "it's the teacher who's old".

Thanks for the feed-back, all. I've made some notes from what you've all said. I have one more exercise for this unit- a small paragraph describing myself:

Nazywam się Tomasz. Jestem Polakiem i Niemcem. Jestem studentem i zamuję się uniwersytetem. Kiedy mam wolny czas, interesuję się muzyką i językiem polskim. Moja dziewczyna ma na imię Melissa. Ona jest Australijczyką.

One more thing: "zajmuję się uniwersytetem" sounds a bit weird, as if you meant taking care of the university. Grammatically it's correct, however.

I wanted to say "I'm busy with work at school." I quess it would be better to use the adjective here? So:
Jestem zajęty z pracą w uniwersytetu

I haven't done Dative or Locative yet, so I'm just guessing on the phrase "at school/university."

Jestem zajęty pracą na uniwersytecie.
Jestem zajęty pracą w szkole.

If you want to say that you really work at school/university. Otherwise: Jestem zajęty nauką na uniwersytecie/w szkole.

Or just: Jestem zajęty uniwersytetem/szkołą.

However, if you just want to say, that you work/study there, and that's your 'job':
Zajmuję się się nauką na uniwersytecie/w szkole.

Hmm, maybe somebody else will better explain differences between those sentences...

What silmeth said is of course 100% correct, but no one would say it that way.
I would simply say it like:
"Studiuję na uniwersytecie."
or - to avoid repeating the word student/studiować:
"Uczę się na uniwersytecie."

"Zajmuję się nauką na uniwersytecie" seems to be what you wanted to say, but it sounds so strange, that I can't imagine any Pole saying it
