"Go shopping"

Egün hun

I'd like to ask how you say "to go shopping" or "to go and to the shopping" (ie. to buy food and everyday stuff like that - it's not for pleasure) in Basque.
I couldn't find the appropriate answer in any dictionary...

Eskerrik hanitx!

Kaixo Prosper,

Where I live, "to do the shopping" or "to get the groceries in" are normally used in this context.

In Basque, you could say "erosketa(k) egin". For example:

Jone supermerkatuan dago, asteko erosketa egiten = Jone is at the supermarket doing the weekly shop.

I think the singular (erosketa) is more commonly used in this context, as it mirrors the Spanish expression "hacer la compra".

This construction also works for talking about shopping in a general sense (or pleasure shopping), although in this instance the plural (erosketak) and the inclusion of the verb "to go" (joan) seems more common to me. Unsurprisingly, in Spanish they say "ir de compras".... Example: Goazen erosketak egitera! = Let's go shopping! = !Vamos de compras!

I don't know what a native Basque speaker in Iparralde would say on the street, though. If you could find one, that is :-/...
