Help with grammaticality judgements

Postby kfranich » 2008-11-30, 21:09

Hello,

I am working on a linguistics project with Euskara. I'm wondering if someone might be able to help me by taking a look at the phrases below, pulled from a corpus of child language in the CHILDES database. I'm wondering whether a) these phrases would be considered grammatically correct in adult Basque, b) if not, why and c) whether each one might be a logical mistake that an adult might make.

Thanks so much! Here are the phrases:

Ez, ni jolasten noa.
Ni banoa.
Ez, ni ez dek nik.
Madalenak eta hori, jateko nik.
Ez, ni naz otsoa.
Ni noa jaten madalena.
Ni banoa etxera.
Ni ez dakik.
Baina ni hemen nago.
Ohera ni bakarrik.
Ni Megazor naz!
Nik?
Ni?
Ni ez nago jausiten.
Ba ni bai, ni bebai.
Orain ni. Ni ez naiz medikue!Ni hau bebai.
Ni naz ahatea.
Orain ni nz oiloa.
Ni naz txikia(goa).
Ni ere joango naz.
Bai, ni lehenengoa.
Ni hemen eskolan, bai ontxe noa.
Ni jesarriko naz hementxe?
Eta gero etorriko naz ni?
Ni jesarriko+naz hementxe?
Bai, nik bebai dekot.
Ni naz oiloa.
Ba ni armairuan sartuko+dot.
Ni joango naiz gerotxuau aitatxon lanera aitatxongana.
Ni naz hau, zu hau
Ez, oin ni naz motorra eta zu kotxea.
Ez, ni ex naz joaten ama bakarrik joaten da.
Nik dekot bi Arbela.
Nik dekot bi arbelak.
Ni joan naiz autobus baten eta eman dozte bildurre!

hi...

a difficult task... these sentences are in biscayan dialect. Some of them could be interpreted as "errors" by speakers of some other dialects. Moreover, some of the sentences show a tendence of modern basque of structuring elements of the sentence along the spanish schema:

Ni noa jaten madalena.
Ni joan naiz autobus baten eta eman dozte bildurre!
Nik dekot bi arbelak.

A child would probably use this structure, but many young adults would too. The particular sentence "Nik dekot bi arbelak", however accumulates an additional error: "dekot" should be "dekotez" (batua- basque: "dauzkat"), no adult would make such a mistake.
"Ni ez dakik" is probably a transcription error... Forgetting the ergative -k is common betwen children (same error in "ni armairuan sartuko dot", the -k is missing in "ni"), but saying "dakik" instead of "dakit" is certainly strange... "ni ez dek ni " is also a strange sentence, I do not really understand the intention of the speaker.

hope it helped,
daniel
