Italian translation game

Postby Massimiliano B » 2013-06-16, 0:03

The rules are simple: translate the given sentence into Italian, then give a sentence for the next person to translate. :)

Let's start!

Have you visited Rome?
Dette er nemlig Formelen, som beskriver Selvets Tilstand, naar Fortvivlelsen ganske er udryddet: i at forholde sig til sig selv, og i at ville være sig selv grunder Selvet gjennemsigtigt i den Magt, som satte det. (This is namely the formula, that describes the condition of the self, when despair is completely eradicated: by relating itself to itself, and by willing to be itself, the self is grounded transparently in the power which constituted it) (Søren Kierkegaard, The sickness unto death)

Oh finalmente questo gioco anche qui nella sezione italiana :-)

Forse dovremmo specificare se i pronomi in questione sono al maschile o al femminile, se you è singolare o plurale e se vogliamo che la frase sia formale (quindi con l'utilizzo del lei) o colloquiale...

Oppure lasciamo liberi i traduttori di scegliere?

Io direi di lasciarli liberi

Hai mai visitato Roma?

I'm not sure what you mean by that.

Non sono sicuro di ciò che vuoi dire con questo.

Yeah, that's what I expected you to say.

Sì infatti, mi aspettavo che l'avresti detto.

E' meglio tradurre in questo modo: «Sì, questo è quello [oppure: ciò] che mi aspettavo che tu dicessi».

La frase di Ektoras («mi aspettavo che l'avresti detto») in inglese - se non sbaglio! - dovrebbe essere questa: «I expected you would say that».

E' meglio evitare ripetizioni di parole. Io direi semplicemente: «Mi prude ancora dove mi ha punto l'ape». Viene più naturale. :)

Sorge un sole rosso. Davanti a noi c'è un giorno tempestoso.

Red sun is rising. The blood was shed last night.

The phrase is my imperfect recollection of a phrase from the Lord of the Rings:
A red sun rises. Blood has been spilled this night.

It is translated to Italian as: Sorge un sole rosso. Stanotte è stato versato del sangue.

I will always regret not having stayed.

Mi dispiacerà per sempre di non essere rimasto.

I was supposed to arrive at six, but my train was cancelled and I arrived two hours late.
