I think the message says: "Μην στηρίζεστε στις πόρτες. Ανοίγουν αυτόματα".

I'd like to know your opinion about "Μην ακουμπάτε στις πόρτες!". Or you'd recommend στηρίζεστε in this case?

Μην ακουμπάτε στις πόρτες

It's definitely not this. Evan's suggestion rings a bell, I'm pretty sure he's correct.

Hello people, I wanted to know a couple of phrases in (modern) Greek, if anybody can help...
I'd like to know how to say "Love paints in different colors", "If life turns its back on you, grab its butt" (if it can be translated with the double sense), and "I love you so much, little bear" lol :P
Efharisto!

You could say:

"Love paints in different colors"
Η αγάπη βάφει με διάφορα χρώματα.

"If life turns its back on you, grab its butt"
Αν η ζωή σου γυρίσει την πλάτη, πιάσε την από τον πισινό.

It's the same idiom, but I'm not really sure about the best way of saying the second part.

"I love you so much, little bear"
Σ' αγαπώ πάρα πολύ, αρκουδάκι μου.

Αν η ζωή σου γυρίσει την πλάτη πιάσε της τον κώλο would sound more native. Actually we pronounce πιάσ'της usually and u can even spell it in informal texts

Kalimera!

Help me please to choose the best version for formal Greek:
1. Μη πετάτε τίποτα (έξω) από το παράθυρο!
2. Μη ρίχνετε τίποτα από το παράθυρο!
Should I add έξω in any case?
Maybe you've got better suggesions...

Thanks for your suggestion.

I've got a bigger problem, though.
I need the lyrics of "Μάγια η Μέλισσα". If you know them by heart, please write down.
If not, they can be heard on

I couldn't find any lyrics online so what I hear is:

Not quite sure about ανεμώνα though...

Thanks so much! :goodjob:
Wellll... ανεμώνα sounds rather strange. I can' find a suitable meaning in the dictionary.
Maybe the version you heard wasn't too clear to catch it. There are others on that site, but only the man had a complete one. My guess is that the last phrase was "Maya, se agapo poli..."

ανεμώνα (also ανεμώνη) is a kind of flower, anemone in English.

And yes, in the version with the guy, it says σ΄ αγαπώ πολύ at the end.

Σαν τον καραγκιόζη

Postby kitsouphil » 2009-09-25, 6:01

Hi,

I wonder what the origin of the family name KOTIKAS (ΚΩΤΙΚΑΣ?) might be. I couldn't find that word (or similar words) in the dictionary.

With the Ω there, it reminds me of the island Cos (Κως), from which you have Κώτης, and Κωτίκας might be a derivation from that, but this is just pure guess-work.
