si-a gasit o prietena -- different meanings of "si"

Postby lizzylou » 2012-08-11, 6:40

I understand "si" to mean "and, also, too" but I have run across it like this with -a:

si-a gasit o prietena

"She has found a friend"??

a-gasit = she has found...yes?

Where does "si" fit in?

Thanks.

In this case, şi is the shortened form of îşi, the reflexive pronoun in dative case.

So, şi-a găsit o prietenă means "he/she has found a [female] friend [for him/herself]".
