Sorry to write this, but I'm giving up. I noticed during the last days that I don't have the time to study Finnish seriously, I'm extremely busy during the week with lots of lectures and during the weekend, I actually want to learn Japanese or another language I already started, I did four Uuno lessons, but not seriously enough, I won't be able to learn this way.
But I liked what I saw so far and it made Finnish even more interesting (I once read a text about Finnish where all the cases were explained at once which was kinda scary, so I'm glad that changed a little). I'll definitely learn Finnish one day, just not now. :(
Please correct my mistakes!

You mean when we use "pitäisi"? ("Should" can be so many things in Finnish.)

Yes, I'm afraid "minun" has to be used.

minun pitää (=must)/ pitäisi (=should),
sinun pitää/ pitäisi,
hänen pitää/ pitäisi,
heidän pitää/ pitäisi,
etc...

If the personal pronouns would not be in genitive form (or whatever it is called), then the verb would have to be conjugated according to the person

minä pidän (=hold/ keep/ like),
sinä pidät,
he pitävät,
etc...

and then as you can see the whole meaning changes again :).

In case somebody wants to listen to some spoken "slow" Finnish, here is a link to the daily 5-min news-broadcast in easy Finnish, a downloadable one-week archive:

And directly on the YLE site with a real-stream and the text:

Well, I didn't sign up in time for the Ulalemo, but I'm learning Finnish anyway. This topic has come up before, but, what there is not enough information on the internet for extended Finnish study. Can you recommend books which are good for the study of Finnish? In particular, I like books with exercizes/answers to practice grammar, and with sections with vocabulary. I'm afraid these might be very hard to find in Finnish, but what do you recommend? What are the best courses? Thanks.

"Le finnois sans peine", from Assimil, looks really nice. I'm studying from it.
Learning Georgian, Mandarin Chinese, Russian and Papiamentu from scratch. Trying to brush up my Norwegian up to an advanced level.

I've heard about the Assimil courses, but I've never had the chance to look through one. Could you describe the format to me a little? Does it explain grammar well, does it have exercises/readings etc? Thanks

Sorry guys..I rather got swamped with mid-terms, essays and exams..and completely had no time for the forum or Finnish...
When I made my pitstop, I sure had a tankful,
Then she blew my gasket; I surely was thankful.
'Till I'm up in the skies up above,
It's a woman with wheels that I love.
